Amber BOD Bottle

250mL – 300mL · Standard sizes

Amber BOD Bottles are specialized containers for light‑sensitive biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) analysis in water quality testing, available in both borosilicate glass 3.3 and soda‑lime glass. The amber glass effectively blocks UV and visible light to protect light‑sensitive water samples from photodegradation. Designed to meet BOD analysis standards, they are used with specialized stoppers to achieve complete sealing, ensuring accurate dissolved oxygen determination. They are essential tools for light‑sensitive water quality analysis in environmental monitoring, wastewater treatment, and food testing laboratories.

Product Description

Amber BOD Bottles are specialized containers for light‑sensitive biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) analysis in water quality testing, available in both borosilicate glass 3.3 and soda‑lime glass. The amber glass effectively blocks UV and visible light (290–500nm) to protect light‑sensitive water samples from photodegradation, ensuring accurate BOD determination. Borosilicate glass meets ISO 3585 standards with thermal shock resistance up to 280°C, ideal for autoclaving and long‑term repeated use; soda‑lime glass offers a more cost‑effective option for routine water quality testing. Both material options conform to BOD5 analysis standards and are used with specialized stoppers to achieve complete sealing, preventing air ingress. They are essential tools for light‑sensitive water quality analysis in environmental monitoring, wastewater treatment, and food testing laboratories.

Key Features

  • Dual material options: Borosilicate glass 3.3 (thermal shock resistant to 280°C, autoclavable) / Soda‑lime glass (cost‑effective, for routine use)
  • Amber light protection: Amber glass effectively blocks UV and visible light (290–500nm) to protect light‑sensitive water samples
  • Standard BOD bottle design: Conforms to dissolved oxygen analysis standards for classic iodometric determination
  • Sealing stopper: Provides complete sealing to prevent air interference
  • Standard sizes: Available in 250mL and 300mL

Quality Assurance

Every unit undergoes rigorous dimensional inspection, sealing integrity testing, and visual examination to ensure reliable BOD analysis performance.

Note: Borosilicate Amber BOD Bottles can withstand autoclaving for sterile applications. Soda‑lime Amber BOD Bottles are not autoclavable — clean with detergent and rinse with distilled water before use. The amber glass itself provides light protection — no additional wrapping required. Please select the appropriate material based on your specific requirements.

Applications

Typical Uses

Environmental monitoring

Light‑protected BOD5 analysis of surface water and groundwater

Wastewater treatment

BOD testing of industrial wastewater containing light‑sensitive components

Food testing

BOD analysis of light‑sensitive food processing wastewater

Research labs

Light‑sensitive water pollution assessment and water quality improvement studies

Educational labs

Light‑sensitive dissolved oxygen determination teaching experiments

Compatibility Recommendations

Amber Bottle + Sealing Stopper

Standard configuration for light‑protected BOD analysis

Amber Bottle + Dedicated Sampler

Reduces handling errors with compatible sampling tools

Amber Bottle + Light‑Sensitive Label

Use labels with "Protect from light" warnings

Amber Bottle + Incubator

Use with an incubator for 5‑day constant‑temperature dark incubation

Tip: Amber BOD Bottles are the professional choice for light‑sensitive sample BOD5 analysis. The amber glass itself provides light protection — no additional wrapping required. Check stopper sealing integrity before analysis. Use dedicated bottles for each sample to avoid cross‑contamination. Choose borosilicate glass for autoclaving applications and soda‑lime glass for routine testing.

Operation & Maintenance

Amber BOD Bottle User Guide

03

Before Use

  • Inspect for cracks, chips, or scratches before use
  • Ensure the bottle is clean and dry to prevent contamination of light‑sensitive samples
  • Check that the sealing stopper is intact — no aging or deformation of the sealing ring
  • Verify that the stopper fits properly — no wobble or sealing issues
  • Borosilicate glass can be autoclaved as needed; soda‑lime glass is not autoclavable — clean with detergent and rinse with distilled water
  • The amber glass itself provides light protection — no additional wrapping required
04

Light‑Sensitive Sample Collection & Storage

  • Using a dedicated sampler, slowly inject the light‑sensitive water sample down the inner wall of the amber BOD bottle
  • Fill completely to the top, ensuring no air bubbles remain
  • Insert the sealing stopper immediately — ensure a complete seal
  • Gently shake the bottle to mix the sample thoroughly
  • Wipe the exterior clean and apply a light‑sensitive sample label (ID, date, sampling location, "Protect from light")
  • Incubate under BOD5 conditions in darkness as required
05

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean promptly after use to prevent residue from hardening
  • Wash with detergent and a soft brush
  • For stubborn residues, soak in dilute acid or specialty cleaning solution
  • Clean the stopper separately and inspect the sealing ring
  • Allow to air‑dry inverted on a draining rack
  • Store carefully to avoid impact and breakage

Care & Notes

Safety Notice

  • Always inspect for cracks or damage before use — damaged bottles may break during use
  • Cap immediately after light‑sensitive sample collection to prevent air ingress and light exposure
  • When handling light‑sensitive wastewater samples, wear protective gloves
Do not
  • Soda‑lime glass is not autoclavable — do not subject to high temperatures
  • Do not place BOD bottles directly on hot plates or open flames
  • Handle with care — avoid impact and rough handling
