Product Description

The Erlenmeyer flask is one of the most commonly used reaction vessels in the laboratory, featuring a distinctive conical shape that facilitates mixing, heating, and storage. The narrow mouth reduces evaporation and splashing, making it ideal for titration, heating reactions, and media preparation.

Four Series · Flexible Selection

RichTech offers flasks in Erlenmeyer, Filtering, Round-Bottom, and Flat-Bottom series:

1. Erlenmeyer Flasks (Standard Conical)

  • Conical design with wide base and narrow mouth for easy mixing and storage.
  • Narrow mouth effectively reduces evaporation and splashing, ideal for titration.
  • Suitable for titration analysis, heating reactions, and media preparation.

2. Filtering Flasks (Side-Arm)

  • Features a side-arm for connection to a vacuum pump for filtration.
  • Uniform wall thickness to withstand vacuum pressure.
  • Used with Buchner or fritted funnels for solid-liquid separation.

3. Round-Bottom Flasks

  • Round-bottom design for even heat distribution, ideal for reflux and distillation.
  • Requires heating mantle or oil bath — not for use on hot plates.
  • Used in organic synthesis, reflux reactions, and distillation.

4. Flat-Bottom Flasks

  • Flat bottom for stable placement on hot plates or workbenches.
  • Combines the narrow mouth of a flask with the stability of a beaker.
  • Suitable for heating reactions, solution preparation, and general storage.

Design Features

  • Conical Design: Wide base with narrow mouth, ideal for swirling and mixing without splashing.
  • Narrow Mouth: Reduces evaporation and contamination during storage and reactions.
  • Clear Graduations: White or blue scale markings for quick volume reading.
  • Uniform Wall Thickness: Minimizes thermal stress during heating, reducing the risk of breakage.

Material Advantage

Manufactured from Borosilicate Glass 3.3 in accordance with ISO 3585 standards. The ultra-low coefficient of thermal expansion (3.3×10⁻⁶/K) ensures resistance to thermal shock up to 280°C, making it suitable for heating, cooling, and a wide range of laboratory operations.

Quality Assurance

Every piece undergoes rigorous dimensional inspection, stress testing, and visual inspection to meet high laboratory standards, providing reliable performance for your experiments.

Note: When heating, use a wire gauze or hot plate for uniform heat distribution. Do not seal the flask completely during heating to prevent pressure buildup.

Applications

Common Configurations

  • Hot Plate + Erlenmeyer Flask Solution heating and reactions
  • Glass Rod + Erlenmeyer Flask Stirring and mixing reagents
  • Wire Gauze + Erlenmeyer Flask Uniform heating
  • Rubber Stopper + Erlenmeyer Flask Sealed storage and mixing
  • Burette + Erlenmeyer Flask Titration reactions

Specific Applications

Titration Analysis

Ideal receiving vessel with narrow mouth for color observation

Solution Preparation

Standard solutions, buffers, culture media

Heating Reactions

Water bath heating, hot plate heating

Sample Dissolution

Heating dissolution of solid samples

Swirling & Mixing

Conical design enables thorough mixing without splashing

Teaching Labs

Basic chemistry experiments

Pharmaceutical QC

Sample preparation, quality testing

Environmental Monitoring

Water sample processing, reagent preparation

Tip: Erlenmeyer flasks are particularly well-suited for operations requiring swirling and mixing without splashing. The narrow mouth is especially useful during titration, making it easier to observe color changes at the endpoint.

Flask Procedure

03

Heating

  • Always heat flasks using a wire gauze or hot plate to ensure even heat distribution and prevent localized overheating.
  • Do not fill the flask beyond 2/3 of its capacity to prevent boiling over during heating.
  • Gently stir with a glass rod during heating for even temperature distribution.
  • Do not seal the flask completely during heating — pressure buildup may cause the stopper to pop out or the flask to break.
  • When heating liquids, do not point the flask opening toward yourself or others to prevent injury from splashing.
04

Swirling & Mixing

  • The conical design of Erlenmeyer flasks is ideal for swirling mixing — gently swirl the flask in a circular motion to create a vortex for thorough mixing.
  • For sealed mixing, use a rubber stopper or silicone stopper to ensure a secure seal.
  • Control the swirling speed to prevent liquid from reaching the mouth.
05

Pouring & Transferring

  • When pouring, align the neck with the receiving container and tilt slowly.
  • The narrow mouth directs liquid flow, preventing it from running down the outer wall.
  • For precise transfer, use a glass rod as a guide.
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean promptly after use to prevent residue from drying and hardening.
  • Use dilute acid or specialized cleaning agents for stubborn residues.
  • Rinse with distilled water and air-dry upside down on a drying rack.
  • Store carefully to avoid chipping and breakage.

Tip: Erlenmeyer flasks are particularly well-suited for swirling mixing, titration analysis, and heating reactions due to their conical design and narrow mouth. Clean and dry thoroughly after each use to extend product life.

Care & Notes

Show care & notes

Safety Notes

  • Inspect flasks for cracks or scratches before use — damaged glass may break when heated.
Do not
  • Always use a wire gauze or hot plate when heating — never place a flask directly over an open flame.
  • When heating liquids, do not point the flask opening toward yourself or others.
  • Do not place hot flasks directly into cold water — thermal shock may cause breakage.
  • Do not seal narrow-mouth flasks completely during heating — ensure venting to prevent pressure buildup.
  • Handle and store with care, avoiding impact with hard surfaces.
