Product Description

Side-Arm Filtering Flasks are specialized containers for vacuum filtration in laboratories, precision‑manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3. Featuring a side tube at the upper body for connection to a vacuum pump, they create a negative‑pressure environment inside the flask for efficient solid‑liquid separation and sterile filtration when used with filter assemblies such as Büchner funnels, sintered glass funnels, or membrane filter holders. Widely used for HPLC mobile phase filtration, buffer sterilization, particulate removal, and sample preparation, they are essential tools in pharmaceutical, chemical, biological, and food testing laboratories.

Key Features

  • Borosilicate glass 3.3: ISO 3585 compliant, thermal shock resistant to 280°C, excellent chemical resistance
  • Side tube design: Upper‑body side tube allows easy connection to a vacuum pump for negative‑pressure filtration
  • High clarity: Clear glass body enables easy monitoring of filtration progress and filtrate collection
  • Uniform wall thickness: Maintains structural integrity under vacuum conditions
  • Multiple capacities: Available in 125mL, 250mL, 500mL, 1000mL, 2500mL, 5000mL, 10000mL, 15000mL, and 20000mL

Quality Assurance

Every unit undergoes rigorous dimensional inspection, wall thickness testing, and visual examination to ensure safety and reliability during vacuum filtration operations.

Note: Side-Arm Filtering Flasks are designed for vacuum filtration operations. We recommend operating at a vacuum pressure not exceeding 0.08MPa. Inspect the flask for cracks or defects before use to prevent breakage under negative pressure.

Applications

Typical Uses

HPLC analysis

Vacuum degassing and filtration of mobile phases and solvents

Pharmaceutical industry

Sterile filtration of water for injection, buffers, and drug solutions

Chemistry labs

Solid‑liquid separation and purification of reaction products

Biology labs

Sterile filtration of media and cell culture media

Food testing

Filtration in food sample preparation

Environmental monitoring

Solid‑liquid separation of water and soil extract samples

Compatibility Recommendations

Flask + Büchner Funnel

Ideal for larger‑particle solid‑liquid separation

Flask + Sintered Glass Funnel

Suitable for medium‑precision filtration

Flask + Membrane Filter Holder

For microfiltration and sterile filtration applications

Flask + Vacuum Pump

Paired with a vacuum pump for negative‑pressure filtration

Flask + Receiving Vessel

Filtrate collection with a matching receiving vessel

Tip: Side-Arm Filtering Flasks are the standard vacuum filtration vessel in laboratories. The key difference from Two-Arm Filtering Flasks is the side tube position — the upper‑body side tube is ideal for use with Büchner funnels and other top‑mounted filter assemblies.

Operation & Maintenance

Side-Arm Filtering Flask User Guide

03

Before Use

  • Inspect for cracks, chips, or scratches before use
  • Ensure the flask is clean and dry to prevent contamination of filtrate
  • Check that the side tube is intact — no damage or looseness
  • Select appropriate filter membrane or filter paper based on your application
04

Filtration Procedure

  • Mount the filter assembly (funnel/filter holder) on the flask neck
  • Connect the side tube to the vacuum pump with tubing
  • Pour the liquid to be filtered into the filter assembly
  • Start the vacuum pump and adjust to the recommended pressure (≤ 0.08MPa)
  • Monitor filtrate collection — turn off the vacuum pump once filtration is complete
  • Wait for the pressure to release, then remove the filter assembly and collect the filtrate
05

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean promptly after use to prevent residue from hardening
  • Wash with detergent and a soft brush
  • For stubborn residues, soak in dilute acid or specialty cleaning solution
  • Clean the side tube with a soft brush or cotton swab to prevent clogging
  • Allow to air‑dry inverted on a draining rack
  • Store carefully to avoid impact and breakage

Care & Notes

Safety Notice

  • Always inspect for cracks or damage before use — damaged flasks may break under vacuum
  • When filtering organic solvents, confirm compatibility of the filter membrane and sealing materials
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves during operation to prevent splash exposure
Do not
  • Do not exceed the recommended vacuum pressure (≤ 0.08MPa) during filtration
  • Handle with care — avoid impact and rough handling
