Diaphragm · Oil-Free 20L/min Flow Rate With Gauge · Adjustable Vacuum Cold Trap Included · Pump Protection

📐 Selection Guidelines: Vacuum pump selection primarily considers vacuum requirement, solvent compatibility, and flow rate. This standard set offers 20L/min flow rate with ultimate vacuum of -0.08~-0.095MPa, suitable for most laboratory vacuum applications. For higher vacuum (e.g., vacuum distillation), upgrade to a two-stage diaphragm pump. For organic solvent applications, choose the PTFE diaphragm version.

  • Diaphragm Vacuum Pump — Oil-free operation, easy maintenance, suitable for organic solvents
  • 20L/min Flow Rate — Meets most laboratory vacuum requirements
  • Pressure Gauge — Real-time vacuum monitoring, -0.1~0MPa range
  • PTFE Vacuum Valve — Chemically resistant, easy adjustment
  • Glass Cold Trap — Prevents vapors from entering the pump, protecting the pump
  • Silicone Tubing — Φ8mm × 2m, vacuum-rated

Product Description

I. Principle of Operation

The diaphragm vacuum pump operates via a motor-driven eccentric shaft that moves the diaphragm in a reciprocating motion, creating periodic expansion and compression within the pump chamber to draw in and expel gas. The diaphragm completely isolates the pump chamber from the drive mechanism, enabling oil-free operation — no contamination of the gas stream or oil mist in the environment.

Compared to rotary vane pumps, diaphragm pumps offer lower maintenance costs (no oil changes) and superior chemical resistance (with PTFE diaphragm and pump head options). This standard set features a PTFE diaphragm and PTFE-coated pump head, compatible with most organic solvents and acid/base systems.

✦ Diaphragm vs Rotary Vane Pump: Diaphragm: Oil-free, low maintenance, excellent chemical resistance — ideal for organic solvents.
Rotary Vane: Requires regular oil changes, higher ultimate vacuum, but oil mist may contaminate samples.
For general lab use, the diaphragm pump is strongly recommended, especially in organic synthesis labs.

II. Components & Functions

  • Diaphragm Vacuum Pump — Core vacuum source, provides stable negative pressure
  • Pressure Gauge — Real-time system vacuum monitoring
  • PTFE Vacuum Valve — Vacuum regulation and isolation
  • Glass Cold Trap — Condenses and traps vapors, protects the pump
  • Silicone Vacuum Tubing — Connection lines, vacuum-rated
  • Vacuum Grease — Seals ground joint interfaces

III. The Role of the Cold Trap

  • Protects the vacuum pump: Condenses and traps vapors drawn from the apparatus, preventing them from entering and corroding the pump diaphragm
  • Improves vacuum level: Condenses volatile vapors, reducing system vapor pressure
  • Prevents cross-contamination: Captures hazardous or valuable vapors during evacuation
  • Usage: Place the cold trap in a Dewar flask with liquid nitrogen, dry ice-acetone, or ice water as the cooling medium

IV. Material & Workmanship

The cold trap is manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3. The pump diaphragm and wetted parts are made of PTFE for chemical resistance. Silicone tubing is vacuum-rated to -0.1MPa with a temperature range of -40~200℃.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

The following is the standard operating procedure for the vacuum pump set. Proper installation and usage habits significantly extend pump life.

03

I. Installation & Connection

  1. Place the vacuum pump on a stable, well-ventilated workbench with at least 10cm clearance on all sides for heat dissipation
  2. Install the pressure gauge on the pump inlet or in a convenient position on the line
  3. Connect in sequence: Pump → Cold Trap → Vacuum Valve → Apparatus using silicone tubing
  4. Apply vacuum grease to all ground joint connections for a proper seal
  5. Inspect all connections for kinks and leaks
04

II. Cold Trap Preparation

  • Place the cold trap in a Dewar flask and select the cooling medium based on the application:
  • Liquid nitrogen (-196℃) — For capturing very low-boiling vapors
  • Dry ice-acetone (-78℃) — For most organic solvent vapors
  • Ice water (0℃) — For water vapor
  • Add the cooling medium before starting the pump
05

III. Startup & Operation

  • Confirm all valves are in the closed position
  • Turn on the vacuum pump and observe the pressure gauge reading
  • Slowly open the vacuum valve to gradually introduce vacuum to the system
  • Adjust valve opening to control vacuum rise rate — prevent liquid bumping
  • Periodically check the pressure gauge for system stability
06

IV. Shutdown & Maintenance

  • Close the vacuum valve first to isolate the apparatus
  • Let the pump run idle for 1~2 minutes to purge residual gases
  • Turn off the pump power
  • Wait for the system to return to atmospheric pressure before disconnecting tubing
  • Remove the cold trap, clean condensate, dry, and store
  • Replace vacuum grease and seals periodically

📌 Critical Installation Order: Correct sequence: Apparatus → Cold Trap → Vacuum Valve → Vacuum Pump
The cold trap should be placed closer to the apparatus than to the pump — to capture vapors as early as possible.
The vacuum valve goes between the cold trap and the pump for regulation and isolation.

💡 From a Seasoned Lab Technician: "Pull vacuum on the line first, then open to the system." — Close the apparatus-side valve, evacuate the line to the target vacuum, then slowly open the valve to the apparatus. This prevents liquid bumping and sample splashing.
If vacuum drops suddenly, check connections and seals before suspecting the pump.
Condensate in the cold trap should be drained regularly to prevent blockage.
If the pump exhibits abnormal noise or overheating, shut down immediately and inspect.

⚠️ Safety & Compliance Checklist

Electrical safety

Keep pump power cord away from heat and liquids

Compliance

Vacuum system operations should follow laboratory safety guidelines

Do not
  • Cold trap safety: Never seal the cold trap when using liquid nitrogen or dry ice — pressure can build up
  • Prevent bumping: Open valves slowly to avoid violent boiling
  • Solvent safety: Never use flammable/explosive solvents directly with the pump without a trap
