Product Description

The volumetric flask is an essential instrument for precise standard solution preparation and volumetric analysis in the laboratory, featuring a narrow neck and a single ring graduation mark for accurate volume measurement. Manufactured from high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3 and compliant with ISO 1042 standards.

Clear & Amber · Two Glass Options

RichTech volumetric flasks are available in clear glass and amber glass:

  • Clear Volumetric Flasks: Classic transparent design for easy observation of liquid levels and color changes. Suitable for routine standard solution preparation.
  • Amber Volumetric Flasks: Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light (wavelength ≤ 470nm), preventing light-sensitive solutions from decomposing due to light exposure. Particularly suitable for silver nitrate, iodine, and potassium permanganate standard solutions.

Plain & SJ · Two Neck Options

RichTech volumetric flasks are available with plain and standard ground joint (SJ) necks:

  • Plain Neck Volumetric Flasks: Smooth neck opening, ideal for routine volumetric operations without sealing requirements. Cost-effective and easy to use.
  • SJ Neck Volumetric Flasks: Feature standard ground joint stoppers (glass or PTFE) for excellent sealing performance. Ideal for long-term storage of standard solutions, preventing evaporation and contamination. Interchangeable stoppers for convenient laboratory use.

Design Features

  • Narrow Neck: Enables precise meniscus control to the ring graduation mark, minimizing volumetric errors.
  • Ring Graduation Mark: A single ring mark indicates the nominal capacity for clear, accurate reading.
  • Flat Bottom: Provides stable placement on workbenches (not for direct heating).
  • Uniform Wall Thickness: Even thickness for strength and durability.

Material Advantage

Manufactured from Borosilicate Glass 3.3 in accordance with ISO 3585 standards. The ultra-low coefficient of thermal expansion (3.3×10⁻⁶/K) ensures resistance to thermal shock and excellent chemical durability.

Quality Assurance

Every volumetric flask undergoes rigorous dimensional inspection, accuracy verification, and visual inspection to meet ISO 1042 Class A requirements.

Note: Volumetric flasks are precision instruments for standard solution preparation. Confirm the nominal volume before use. Maintain the solution temperature near 20°C to avoid volume errors. Store amber flasks away from direct light to maintain their light-blocking properties.

Applications

Common Configurations

  • Volumetric Flask + Pipette Precise dilution and preparation of standard solutions
  • Volumetric Flask + Beaker Solution preparation and transfer

Volumetric Flask Procedure

03

Preparation

  • Inspect the volumetric flask for cracks, scratches, or other defects.
  • Ensure the flask is clean and dry before use.
  • Select the appropriate flask for the required volume.
  • For SJ neck flasks, check that the stopper fits properly and seals well.
04

Volumetric Adjustment

  • Transfer the pre-dissolved sample or solution to the volumetric flask. Rinse the original container with solvent and transfer the rinsings to the flask.
  • Add solvent to approximately 2/3 of the flask capacity and swirl to mix the solution thoroughly.
  • Continue adding solvent until the level approaches the neck graduation mark, then add dropwise using a dropper until the bottom of the meniscus is tangent to the ring graduation mark.
  • Read the volume with your eye level with the lowest point of the meniscus.
  • Stopper the flask (use an appropriate stopper for plain neck flasks) and invert repeatedly to ensure complete mixing.
05

Sealing & Storage

  • SJ neck flasks with standard ground joint stoppers provide excellent sealing for long-term storage of standard solutions.
  • For plain neck flasks requiring sealing, use rubber or plastic stoppers that match the neck diameter.
  • Store amber flasks away from direct light to maintain their light-blocking properties.
  • Label the flask with solution name, concentration, and preparation date.
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue from drying.
  • Clear flasks can be cleaned with standard laboratory detergents.
  • Amber flasks are cleaned in the same manner as clear flasks — the light-blocking property is unaffected.
  • For SJ neck flasks, handle the ground joint carefully to avoid chipping.
  • Use dilute acid or specialized cleaning agents for stubborn residues.
  • Rinse with distilled water and air-dry upside down on a drying rack.
  • Store carefully to avoid chipping and breakage.

Tip: Volumetric flasks are essential for standard solution preparation. Control temperature and parallax carefully when reading the meniscus. SJ neck flasks with ground stoppers provide excellent sealing for long-term storage; plain neck flasks are cost-effective for prepare-and-use operations. Amber flasks are suitable for light-sensitive solutions, preventing decomposition due to light exposure.

Care & Notes

Show care & notes

Safety Notes

  • Maintain the final solution temperature near 20°C — temperature variation causes volume errors.
  • Inspect flasks for cracks or scratches before use — damaged glass may break during use.
  • Store amber flasks away from direct light to maintain their protective properties.
Do not
  • For SJ neck flasks, do not interchange stoppers between flasks — use matched stoppers for proper sealing.
  • Handle and store with care, avoiding impact with hard surfaces.
