Color-Changing Silica Gel Desiccant

Blue Indicating Type · Turns Pink When Wet · Regenerable

Indicating silica gel adds a moisture indicator to standard gel: blue when dry, fading to pink as it saturates — status at a glance with no instruments. Beads in 2-4mm and 4-8mm, 500g bottles, high uptake, and regeneration at 120°C restores the blue color for repeated use in desiccators, dry cabinets and instrument housings.

Product Description

1. Overview

Indicating silica gel uses fine-pore silica as the carrier with an indicator component. As it absorbs moisture the color shifts from blue to pink, so saturation is obvious without instruments — a standard adsorbent for desiccators, dry cabinets and instrument housings.

Uptake is high: in humid conditions it can absorb over 30% of its own weight. Once saturated, drying at about 120°C drives off the water and restores the blue color, allowing many regeneration cycles at low running cost.

Place the gel in a breathable container or the desiccator base, away from direct sample contact. Fading color signals regeneration; keep regeneration temperature moderate — excessive heat damages the indicator and shortens service life.

🔬 Types & Features:
Color cue — blue to pink, status at a glance.
High uptake — strong absorption in humidity.
Regenerable — dry and reuse many times.
Two sizes — fine beads act fast, coarse breathe better.

2. Key Parameters

  • Type: blue indicating silica gel
  • Bead size: 2-4mm / 4-8mm
  • Packaging: 500g bottles (drums available)
  • Uptake: ≥30%
  • Color change: blue dry → pink saturated
  • Regeneration: 120°C until blue

3. Material & Workmanship

Fine-pore silica base with indicator, sieved into bead sizes. Round beads with little dust and uniform color change. Uptake and indication performance are batch-tested.

Position the gel near the desiccator viewing window so color can be checked without opening the lid.

Applications

Typical Uses

Desiccator drying

glass and vacuum desiccators

Dry storage

dry cabinets and reagent cupboards

Instrument protection

housings and gas lines

Sample protection

hygroscopic samples and reagents

Industries

  • Analytical labs standard desiccator adsorbent

Selection Guide

Selection by Application

ApplicationBead SizeNote
Small desiccators2-4mmFaster moisture capture
Dry cabinets, instrument housings4-8mmBetter airflow in large spaces

💡 Tips: Regenerate as color fades — do not wait for full pink.
120°C is enough for regeneration; higher hurts the indicator.
Place gel at the viewing window for easy checks.

Operation & Maintenance

Operation Guide

Standard guide for indicating silica gel.

03

Before Use

  • Confirm the gel is blue (dry)
  • Choose bead size and quantity
  • Use a breathable container or desiccator base
  • Increase dosage for humid environments
04

Procedure

  1. Place gel in the desiccator base or a breathable container
  2. Position it within view of the window
  3. Close the desiccator tightly
  4. Check color regularly
  5. Regenerate once color fades clearly
  6. Dry at 120°C until blue and reuse
05

Cleaning & Care

  • Regenerate promptly when damp
  • Replace when uptake drops after many cycles
  • Store in sealed containers
  • Dispose of contaminated gel as lab waste

💡 Lab veteran tips: Blue dry, pink wet — easy to remember.
Regenerate at 120°C — never overheat.
Window placement — check status without opening.
Humid rooms need more gel.

⚠️ Safety Notes

Regeneration

drying releases moisture — vent the oven

Keep away from food and sample

Keep away from food and samples

Do not
  • Temperature: do not exceed 150°C or the indicator fails
  • Dust: pour gently to avoid inhaling dust
