📐 Selection Guidelines: Crucible selection primarily considers digestion system, capacity, and temperature requirements. HF digestion → PTFE is the only reliable choice. Routine acid digestion → PTFE or glass are suitable. HF-H₂SO₄ systems → do not operate at fuming temperatures. Choose capacity based on sample size and digestion system.

Product Description

I. Overview

The PTFE crucible is manufactured from high-purity PTFE resin through cold pressing and high-temperature sintering. PTFE is chemically inert, non-contaminating to samples, with a thermal stability range of -196℃ to 260℃.

PTFE crucibles are unaffected by hydrofluoric acid (HF) and are primarily used for HF-based sample dissolution operations. Compatible with PTFE covers, they are a cost-effective alternative to platinum crucibles, particularly for applications requiring metal-ion-free digestion and pretreatment.

Available in sizes from 30ml to 250ml, widely used in geological sample digestion, environmental sample pretreatment, trace analysis, and semiconductor testing industries.

II. Core Performance Parameters

  • Purity: High-purity PTFE with ultra-low metal leaching (Pb, U < 0.01ppb)
  • Operating Temperature: -196℃ ~ 260℃, short-term up to 300℃
  • Chemical Resistance: Resistant to HF, aqua regia, concentrated H₂SO₄, HNO₃, strong alkalis, and organic solvents
  • Surface Properties: Non-stick, low friction coefficient, easy to clean
  • Recommended Temperature: Routine use ≤ 250℃, maximum 280℃

III. Material & Workmanship

Manufactured from imported high-purity PTFE resin, precision cold-pressed in molds, and sintered in high-temperature furnaces — ensuring dense structure, smooth surface, and bubble-free finish. Uniform wall thickness and flat bottom ensure uniform heat distribution during heating.

All products are assembled and packaged in cleanroom environments to ensure contamination-free surfaces.

Applications

Typical Applications

Geological Sample Digestion

HF-HClO₄ systems for rock and mineral dissolution

Environmental Sample Pretreatment

Heavy metal acid digestion in soil and sediment

Trace Analysis

Sample digestion for ICP-MS, ICP-OES, AA analysis

Low Temperature Ashing

Organic material ashing (< 280℃)

Semiconductor Industry

Ultra-pure material digestion and testing

Selection Guide

I. By Digestion System

II. By Capacity

  • 30ml: Micro samples, precious sample digestion
  • 50ml: Routine sample digestion
  • 100ml: Medium-scale sample digestion
  • 250ml: Large volume sample digestion, batch processing

💡 Selection Tip: Crucible capacity should be 3~5× sample volume to allow for acid and reaction space. For HF digestion, PTFE is the only reliable choice — glass and quartz crucibles are corroded by HF.
For ultra-trace analysis (ICP-MS level), PFA crucibles are recommended.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

Standard operating guidelines for PTFE crucibles. Proper use and maintenance significantly extend product life and ensure laboratory safety.

03

I. Pre-use Preparation

  • Inspect the crucible for cracks or deformations
  • Soak in 10% nitric acid for 24 hours, rinse thoroughly with ultrapure water, and dry
  • For trace analysis, extend acid washing to 48 hours
  • Confirm the hotplate surface is clean and temperature is accurate
04

II. Loading Operation

  1. Accurately weigh the sample and add to the crucible
  2. Add the appropriate digestion acid system — sample volume ≤ 1/3 of crucible capacity
  3. If using a PTFE cover, place it gently to prevent moisture loss (do not seal completely)
05

III. Heating Operation

  • Heat slowly on a hotplate to prevent sample splashing from localized overheating
  • PTFE conducts heat slowly — allow temperature to stabilize. Control temperature within 250℃
  • For HF-H₂SO₄ systems, do not operate at fuming temperature
  • If acid evaporates too quickly during digestion, replenish as needed
06

IV. Cooling & Transfer

  • Allow the crucible to cool naturally to room temperature after digestion
  • Transfer the digestate to a volumetric flask for dilution
  • For storage, transfer to a PTFE reagent bottle
06

V. Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Routine Cleaning: Rinse immediately with deionized water after use
  • Stubborn Residues: Heat with dilute nitric acid for cleaning
  • Important: Do not scrape the inner wall with hard objects or use hard brushes
  • Storage: Store clean and dry in a clean environment

💡 From a Seasoned Lab Technician: "PTFE heats slowly — temperature control is key" — PTFE is a thermal insulator, heating much slower than metal or glass. Use a programmable hotplate with a gradual ramp (e.g., 80℃→120℃→180℃) to avoid temperature shock and sample splashing.
HF digestion requires PTFE crucibles — glass and quartz are severely corroded by HF, contaminating samples.
After digestion, cool naturally to room temperature before transfer to prevent volumetric flask damage or sample loss from high temperatures.
For HF-HClO₄ systems, pay special attention to fuming safety — always operate in a fume hood.

⚠️ Safety & Compliance Checklist

Chemical Safety

HF digestion must be performed in a fume hood with HF-resistant gloves

Temperature Control

Maximum 280℃, routine use ≤ 250℃

Protective Equipment

Wear safety goggles, lab coat, and acid/alkali resistant gloves

Compliance

Digestion operations should follow laboratory safety guidelines and relevant standards

Do not
  • Pressure Safety: PTFE covers must not be completely sealed — pressure can build up
