Product Description

The fritted crucible (also known as a Gooch crucible with fritted disc or sintered glass crucible) is a specialized glass instrument for gravimetric analysis, microanalysis, and chemical analysis — designed for the filtration, washing, drying, and weighing of precipitates. Made from high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3 with a sintered glass frit, it offers excellent chemical resistance, thermal shock resistance, and filtration efficiency.

The key design advantage of the fritted crucible is its combined filtration + drying + weighing capability: precipitates can undergo the entire process from filtration and washing to drying and weighing within the same crucible, eliminating sample loss from transfer and improving analytical accuracy. Fritted disc grades cover the G0~G6 full range (including G1A and G4A intermediate grades), suitable for different types of precipitates.

✦ Key Advantages: Compared to standard paper filtration, fritted crucibles offer superior chemical resistance — capable of filtering acids and other corrosive systems. Precipitates are dried and weighed directly in the crucible without transfer, eliminating sample loss. Uniform pore size ensures high filtration efficiency. Reusable with proper cleaning, offering long service life.

Key Features

  • Borosilicate Glass 3.3: Low thermal expansion, chemical resistance, thermal shock resistance
  • Sintered Fritted Disc: Uniform pore size, G0~G6 full range (including G1A and G4A)
  • Filtration + Drying + Weighing: Combined operation eliminates sample transfer loss
  • Acid-Resistant: Suitable for filtering acids and corrosive reagents
  • Wide Size Range: Capacities from 2ml to 100ml
  • Reusable: Can be cleaned and reused — economical and environmentally friendly

Quality Assurance

Every fritted crucible undergoes rigorous pore size inspection, visual inspection, and material testing to ensure the frit is intact, unclogged, and has uniform pore size. Bulk orders support custom fritted disc grades and capacities — welcome to inquire.

Tip: Inspect the fritted disc for cracks or clogging before use. Clean immediately after use to prevent residue from blocking the frit pores. Maximum working temperature is 500°C — do not subject to high-temperature ashing.

Operation & Maintenance

Fritted Crucible User Guide

03

I. Before Use

  • Inspect the fritted disc for cracks, defects, or clogging
  • New crucibles should be pre-treated by suction filtration with hot hydrochloric acid or chromic-sulfuric acid
  • Rinse thoroughly with distilled water
  • Dry to constant weight in an oven at 160-250°C before use
  • Important: Fritted crucibles are NOT suitable for high-temperature ashing — maximum working temperature is 500°C
04

II. Filtration & Weighing Procedure

  • Mount the fritted crucible securely on the filter flask
  • Pour the precipitate suspension slowly along a glass rod into the crucible
  • Wash the precipitate with appropriate solvent (washing volume generally ≤ 2/3 of crucible capacity per wash)
  • After filtration, place the crucible with precipitate in the oven
  • Dry at 110-250°C to constant weight
  • Cool in a desiccator to room temperature, then weigh
  • Repeat drying-cooling-weighing cycles until constant weight is achieved
05

III. Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue from hardening
  • Soak in potassium dichromate-sulfuric acid cleaning solution overnight
  • Alternatively, soak in concentrated sulfuric acid with heating for 1 hour
  • Do not use scouring powder
  • Do not scrape the fritted disc with hard objects
  • Rinse thoroughly with distilled water and dry before storage

Safety Precautions

  • Always work in a fume hood when handling strong acids, bases, or flammable liquids
  • Wear protective gloves and safety goggles
Do not
  • Do not use cracked or damaged fritted products
  • Pressure differential across the frit must not exceed 9.8×10⁴ Pa (1 kg/cm²)
  • Do not apply direct flame — high heat can sinter the frit into a solid block
  • NEVER filter: Hydrofluoric acid, hot concentrated phosphoric acid, or hot/cold concentrated alkali solutions
