Conical Graduated Centrifuge Tube

5ml / 10ml / 15ml / 25ml / 30ml / 50ml · Multiple Capacities

Conical graduated centrifuge tubes combine the pellet-concentrating benefits of a tapered conical design with accurate volume graduations on the tube body. Manufactured from high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3, these tubes allow direct volume reading before and after centrifugation — eliminating sample transfer steps and reducing measurement errors. Widely used in biochemistry, clinical diagnostics, and pharmaceutical QC for applications requiring both centrifugation and quantitative volume assessment in a single vessel.

Marking Technology: Graduations are applied using high-temperature fused white enamel that bonds with the glass surface, providing exceptional resistance to acids, alkalis, organic solvents, and repeated cleaning cycles.

Product Description

Conical graduated centrifuge tubes are a versatile upgrade to standard conical tubes, incorporating precise volume graduations directly on the tube body. Manufactured from high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3, the tapered conical design concentrates pelleted materials at the tube tip, while the clear, permanent graduations enable direct volume measurement before and after centrifugation. This integrated design eliminates the need for sample transfer to separate graduated cylinders or test tubes, reducing sample loss and measurement errors — particularly valuable for precious samples and micro-volume applications.

Key Features

  • Borosilicate Glass 3.3: ISO 3585 compliant · Low thermal expansion · Thermal shock resistance up to 280°C · Resistant to acids, alkalis, and organic solvents
  • Integrated Conical Bottom + Graduations: Centrifugation and volume reading in a single vessel — eliminates transfer steps
  • Precise Volume Graduations: Clear, permanent white enamel markings · Key volume points verified for accuracy
  • High Mechanical Strength: Uniform wall thickness for reliable performance under standard centrifugation (RCF up to 5,000 × g)
  • Superior Clarity: High-purity glass enables clear visualization of pellet formation
  • Autoclavable: Steam sterilization at 121°C / 15 psi for 20 minutes
  • Graduation Range: Covers 5ml to 50ml, meeting diverse laboratory requirements

Value Proposition: One tube = Centrifugation + Quantification. Eliminates post-centrifugation transfer to separate measuring devices, reducing sample loss and handling errors — ideal for precious samples and micro-analysis workflows.

Quality Assurance

Each tube undergoes rigorous dimensional inspection, graduation accuracy verification, and mechanical strength testing. The white enamel markings are permanently fused to the glass surface, ensuring they remain legible through repeated washing and autoclaving cycles. Our products meet laboratory consumable standards, delivering reliable performance for your quantitative centrifugation applications.

Note: Graduations are intended for rapid estimation and volume change monitoring. For precise volumetric measurements, use calibrated volumetric flasks or pipettes. Always inspect tubes for cracks or chips before use, and use appropriate adapters or cushions during centrifugation.

Applications

Typical Application Areas

Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Direct supernatant volume reading after cell lysis centrifugation · Protein pellet estimation · Nucleic acid elution volume confirmation

Clinical Diagnostics

Serum/plasma volume reading post-blood centrifugation · Urine sediment volume assessment

Microbiology

Bacterial pellet wet weight estimation · Supernatant-to-pellet ratio determination

Pharmaceutical QC

Sedimentation volume ratio testing (pharmacopoeia methods) · Formulation stability studies

Environmental & Food Testing

Quantification of sediment from water samples · Centrifugal quantification in food sample preparation

Compliance & Standards

  • EP 2.9.35 — Sedimentation Volume Ratio (compatible methodology)
  • ChP 0982 — Sedimentation Volume Ratio Determination (Chinese Pharmacopoeia)
  • Compatible with laboratory SOPs requiring combined centrifugation and volume measurement

Tip: Conical graduated tubes are the upgraded version of standard conical tubes, ideal for applications requiring volume change monitoring before and after centrifugation. For best results, pair with RichTech pipettes and volumetric flasks for a complete sample preparation system.

Conical Graduated Centrifuge Tube Operation Guide

03

Preparation Before Use

  • Inspect each tube for cracks, chips, or rim damage — damaged tubes must never be used for centrifugation
  • Verify that graduations are clear and legible — no fading or damage
  • Rinse 2–3 times with distilled water and dry before use (or sterilize as required)
  • Autoclave conditions: 121°C / 15 psi / 20 minutes
04

Centrifugation Procedure

  • Counterbalance precisely: Symmetrical placement with weight deviation ≤ 0.1g
  • Fill volume: Do not exceed 80% of nominal capacity
  • Rotor matching: Use appropriate rubber cushions or adapters when necessary
  • Centrifuge settings: Recommended RCF for glass tubes: ≤ 5,000 × g
  • Acceleration/Braking: Use medium acceleration/deceleration settings
05

Post-Centrifugation Reading

  • Allow tubes to stand for 2–3 minutes before opening
  • Read volume at the bottom of the meniscus (standard graduated cylinder reading technique)
  • Record pre- and post-centrifugation volumes to calculate sediment percentage
  • For pellet collection, carefully aspirate supernatant without disturbing the pellet
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue adhesion
  • Routine cleaning: Mild detergent + soft brush — rinse 3 times with distilled water
  • Stubborn residues: Soak in dilute nitric acid or specialized cleaning solution for 2–4 hours
  • Avoid strong alkaline cleaners or abrasive brushes that may damage graduations
  • Invert to air dry or place in oven at 60°C until dry
  • Store upright in dedicated tube racks

Safety Precautions

  • Always secure caps or seal with Parafilm during centrifugation
  • When working with biohazardous, corrosive, or highly toxic samples, use a biosafety cabinet or fume hood
  • Glass centrifuge tubes are not suitable for dry-heat sterilization (above 160°C) — use autoclaving
Do not
  • Never use cracked or damaged centrifuge tubes
  • Take volume readings under consistent lighting conditions to avoid parallax error
