For applications requiring frequent stopper use, rolled-rim tubes are strongly recommended for superior rim durability and easier stopper handling.

Product Description

Rolled-rim test tubes are a premium upgrade to standard plain test tubes, featuring a reinforced rim formed through a precision hot-rolling process. Manufactured from high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3, the rolled rim significantly enhances mechanical strength at the tube opening — effectively preventing chipping, cracking, and edge damage while providing a smooth, rounded surface that facilitates easy stopper insertion and removal. As the strength-enhanced version of plain test tubes, rolled-rim tubes are ideal for applications requiring frequent stopper use or where rim durability is a priority.

Key Features

  • Borosilicate Glass 3.3: ISO 3585 compliant · Low thermal expansion · Thermal shock resistance up to 280°C · Resistant to acids and alkalis
  • Rolled Rim: Precision hot-rolled rim provides superior strength and a smooth, chip-resistant edge
  • Enhanced Durability: Rolled design distributes stress — significantly reduces rim chipping and cracking
  • Uniform Wall Thickness: Even heat distribution — reduces thermal stress and breakage risk
  • High Clarity: High-purity glass enables clear observation of samples and color changes
  • Autoclavable: 121°C / 15 psi / 20 minutes steam sterilization
  • Comprehensive Range: Over 20 sizes from 10×75mm to 41×225mm

Rolled-Rim vs Plain-Rim: Rolled-rim tubes feature a reinforced rim that provides significantly greater mechanical strength than plain-rim tubes, with superior chip resistance. The smooth, rounded rim also enables smoother stopper insertion and removal, making them ideal for applications requiring frequent stopper use or higher rim durability.

Quality Assurance

Each rolled-rim test tube undergoes rigorous dimensional inspection, wall thickness uniformity testing, and visual inspection. The rolling process is precisely controlled to ensure a smooth, uniform rim without burrs or defects. Our products meet laboratory glassware quality standards.

Note: Rolled-rim test tubes are basic tubes — no graduations, no stopper. For graduated functions, choose Graduated Test Tubes; for sealed storage, choose Stoppered Test Tubes; for a combination of features, select the appropriate product based on your needs.

Rolled-Rim vs Plain-Rim Comparison

  • Rim Strength Rolled-rim tubes offer superior chip resistance vs plain-rim tubes
  • Stopper Handling Rolled-rim tubes provide smoother stopper insertion with reduced rim damage
  • Service Life Rolled-rim tubes have significantly longer service life with less rim chipping
  • Cost Rolled-rim tubes require additional processing — slightly higher cost
  • Selection Choose plain-rim for general use; choose rolled-rim for frequent stopper use or where rim durability is critical

Tip: Rolled-rim test tubes are the strength-enhanced version of plain test tubes — ideal for applications requiring frequent stopper insertion and removal or where rim durability is a priority. For general laboratory use, plain-rim tubes are sufficient.

Rolled-Rim Test Tube Operation Guide

03

Preparation Before Use

  • Inspect for cracks, chips, or rim damage
  • Verify the rolled rim is intact — no chips or burrs
  • Wash with mild detergent and soft brush — rinse 3 times with distilled water
  • Autoclave at 121°C / 15 psi / 20 minutes
  • Dry at 60°C or air dry inverted before use
04

Stopper Usage Guidelines

  • Select the correct size rubber or silicone stopper (should insert 1/2–2/3 of the way)
  • Twist while inserting the stopper — avoid straight pushing that may stress the rim
  • Twist while removing the stopper — avoid sudden jerking motions
  • The rolled rim provides enhanced durability, but still avoid excessive force
05

Routine Operation

  • Filling: Do not exceed 1/2 of tube capacity (1/3 when heating)
  • Heating: Use a tube holder at 1/3 from the rim — tilt at 45° — heat evenly
  • Mixing: Use a glass stirring rod or gently flick the tube wall
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue adhesion
  • Routine cleaning: Mild detergent + soft brush — rinse 3 times with distilled water
  • Stubborn residues: Soak in dilute nitric acid or specialized cleaning solution
  • Air dry inverted or place in oven at 60°C
  • Store upright in dedicated test tube racks
  • Although rolled-rim tubes have enhanced durability, still avoid impact with hard surfaces

Care & Notes

Safety Precautions

  • Inspect for cracks or scratches before use — damaged tubes may break when heated
  • When handling flammable, explosive, or toxic samples, work in a fume hood
  • Wear protective gloves and goggles when handling strong acids and alkalis
  • Heated tubes are extremely hot — allow to cool before handling
Do not
  • Never place rolled-rim test tubes directly on hot plates or open flames — use a tube holder
