Sealing Technology: The ground glass stopper and tube mouth are precision-matched for consistent sealing performance. Each stopper is individually paired with its tube — do not interchange to maintain seal integrity. For higher sealing requirements, PTFE stoppers are available as an alternative.

Product Description

Stoppered test tubes are an essential upgrade to standard plain test tubes, featuring a precision-ground glass stopper that provides an airtight seal. Manufactured from high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3, the ground glass stopper is individually matched to each tube, ensuring a secure seal that effectively prevents sample evaporation, oxidation, and contamination. Combining the versatility of standard test tubes with sealed storage functionality, stoppered test tubes are essential tools for sample preservation, standard solution storage, and volatile reagent handling.

Key Features

  • Borosilicate Glass 3.3: ISO 3585 compliant · Low thermal expansion · Thermal shock resistance up to 280°C · Resistant to acids and alkalis
  • Ground Glass Stopper: Precision-ground for an airtight seal · Prevents evaporation and contamination
  • Oxidation Prevention: Airtight seal effectively isolates samples from air, preventing oxidation
  • Versatile Use: Functions as both a regular test tube and a sealed storage vessel
  • High Clarity: High-purity glass enables clear observation of sample state and color changes
  • Autoclavable: 121°C / 15 psi / 20 minutes steam sterilization
  • Matched Stoppers: Each stopper is individually ground to its tube for optimal sealing performance

Value Proposition: Stoppered test tubes = Standard test tube + Sealed storage capability. The integrated ground glass stopper provides secure sealing without the need for separate rubber stoppers or sealing films — ideal for volatile sample storage, standard solution preservation, and oxidation-sensitive experiments.

Quality Assurance

Each stoppered test tube set (tube + stopper) undergoes rigorous dimensional inspection, seal integrity testing, and visual inspection. Stoppers are precision-ground and individually matched to their tubes to ensure consistent sealing performance. Our products meet laboratory glassware quality standards.

Note: Stoppers are individually matched to each tube — do not interchange to ensure proper sealing. Verify the stopper fits smoothly without wobbling or binding before use. For long-term storage, place a small piece of lint-free paper between stopper and tube to prevent sticking.

Applications

Typical Application Areas

Standard Solution Storage

Sealed preservation of prepared standard solutions to prevent concentration changes and contamination

Volatile Sample Storage

Organic solvents, volatile reagents, flavors, and fragrances requiring airtight sealing

Oxidation Prevention

Storage of oxygen-sensitive materials (reducing reagents, indicators, etc.)

Sample Collection & Transport

Temporary sealed storage and transport of experimental samples between labs

Education

Sample preservation training in student laboratory courses

Pharmaceutical QC

Standard solution storage, stability study sample aliquoting

Stoppered vs Plain Test Tube

  • Sealing Stoppered tubes provide airtight sealing; plain tubes require separate closures
  • Evaporation Prevention Stoppered tubes effectively prevent evaporation; plain tubes allow evaporation
  • Contamination Protection Stoppered tubes isolate from contamination; plain tubes are open to contamination
  • Convenience Stoppered tubes are easy to open/close; plain tubes require separate stopper handling
  • Selection Choose stoppered for sealed storage; choose plain for routine operations

Tip: Stoppered test tubes are the sealed storage upgrade of plain test tubes — ideal for applications requiring sealed storage and evaporation prevention. For applications requiring both graduations and sealing, choose Graduated Stoppered Test Tubes.

Stoppered Test Tube Operation Guide

03

Preparation Before Use

  • Inspect for cracks, chips, or rim damage
  • Verify the stopper fits properly — no wobbling or binding
  • Wash with mild detergent and soft brush — clean both tube and stopper — rinse 3 times with distilled water
  • Autoclave at 121°C / 15 psi / 20 minutes
  • Dry at 60°C or air dry inverted before use
04

Sealed Storage Procedure

  • Slowly pour or transfer sample into the tube using a pipette or funnel
  • Do not exceed 2/3 of tube capacity — leave headspace
  • Insert stopper vertically with a gentle twisting motion — avoid cross-threading
  • Verify seal integrity (invert or tilt to check for leakage)
  • Label clearly on the tube exterior (sample name, date, concentration, etc.)
  • Store in a cool, dry, light-protected location according to sample stability requirements
05

Sampling Procedure

  • Carefully remove the stopper — avoid excessive force that may damage the ground joint
  • Use a pipette or transfer pipette to withdraw the required volume
  • Reseal immediately after sampling to preserve sample integrity
  • Take care to avoid contaminating the sample or the stopper during handling
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue adhesion
  • Routine cleaning: Mild detergent + soft brush — clean both tube and stopper — rinse 3 times with distilled water
  • Stubborn residues: Soak in dilute nitric acid or specialized cleaning solution
  • Air dry inverted or place in oven at 60°C
  • For extended storage, place a small piece of lint-free paper between stopper and tube to prevent sticking
  • Stoppers and tubes are matched pairs — do not interchange

Care & Notes

Show care & notes

Safety Precautions

  • Inspect for cracks or scratches before use — damaged tubes may break during heating or vacuum applications
  • When handling volatile, flammable, or toxic samples, work in a fume hood
  • Wear protective gloves and goggles when handling strong acids and alkalis
  • When storing alkaline samples long-term, consider using PTFE stoppers to prevent ground joint sticking
Do not
  • Stoppers are individually paired with each tube — do not interchange
  • Do not overtighten ground glass stoppers — this may cause sticking or damage to the ground joint
