Product Description

The serpentine reflux condenser is a specialized condensation device designed for reflux reactions in standard joint glassware. Its serpentine inner tube design provides an exceptionally long condensation path, ensuring complete vapor condensation and return to the reaction system. This design is particularly essential for long-duration organic synthesis reflux reactions where solvent loss must be minimized. The standard 1:10 taper ground glass joint ensures reliable sealing and interchangeability with all standard joint accessories. Manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3, it offers excellent thermal and chemical resistance. Effective lengths range from 200mm to 1000mm to accommodate various reaction scales.

Key Features

  • Borosilicate Glass 3.3: ISO 3585 compliant, low expansion, thermal shock 280°C
  • Serpentine Inner Tube: Longest condensation path for complete reflux
  • Reflux Specialized Design: Optimized serpentine structure for extended reflux reactions
  • Standard Joint: 1:10 taper, precision ground for reliable sealing
  • Multiple Sizes: Available in 19#, 24#, 29# joint sizes
  • Multiple Lengths: 200mm ~ 1000mm effective lengths
  • High Transparency: Easy observation of reflux status
  • Chemical Resistant: Suitable for various organic solvents

Quality Assurance

Every condenser undergoes strict dimensional inspection, joint taper testing, and thermal resistance testing to ensure compliance with applicable standards.

Note: Ensure joints are clean and dry before use to prevent sticking. Cooling water should flow from the lower inlet to the upper outlet for optimal efficiency. Serpentine reflux condensers are specifically designed for reflux reactions.

Applications

Typical Applications

Reflux Reactions

Organic synthesis reflux, polymerization, extended heating reactions

Soxhlet Extraction

Fat extraction, natural product extraction (reflux cycling)

Pharmaceutical R&D

Intermediate synthesis, API reflux reactions

Solvent Purification

Reflux drying, solvent refining

Education

University organic chemistry lab teaching

Analytical Chemistry

Reflux digestion, sample preparation

Compatible Equipment

Standard joint round-bottom flasks, three-neck flasks

Reactors, Soxhlet extractors

Heating mantles, oil baths

Tip: The serpentine reflux condenser is the specialized condensation device for reflux reactions, providing the longest condensation path for complete vapor return. 24# and 29# sizes are available in 1000mm extra-long length for large-scale reactions. Use accessories of the same joint size for optimal sealing.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

03

Preparation

  • Inspect condenser for cracks, chips, or scratched joints
  • Clean joint surfaces with a soft cloth or cotton swab
  • Apply a small amount of vacuum grease if joints are too tight
04

Installation & Connection

  • Connect the condenser vertically to the flask or reactor via the joint
  • Insert with gentle twisting motion, do not force
  • Secure the condenser with a clamp for vertical stability
  • Connect cooling water: lower inlet → upper outlet, ensure correct flow direction
  • Maintain moderate water flow rate for optimal condensation
05

Reflux Operation

  • Turn on cooling water before heating, maintain steady flow
  • Observe vapor rise, ensure all vapor is condensed before reaching the top
  • Adjust heating power for moderate reflux rate, avoid bumping
  • Regularly check cooling water flow during extended reflux
  • For extra-long condensers (1000mm), increase water flow rate as needed
06

Disassembly & Cleaning

  • Stop heating first, continue cooling water flow for cool down
  • Turn off cooling water, gently twist to detach
  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue buildup
  • Wash joints with soft brush and detergent, avoid hard objects
  • Clean serpentine coil with a long-handled soft brush
  • Air dry after washing, store with soft paper between joints

Safety Tips

  • Ensure cooling water connections are secure to prevent leaks
  • Maintain continuous cooling water flow during reflux to prevent solvent loss
  • Monitor cooling water temperature during extended reflux; use chilled circulating water if necessary
  • Always work in a fume hood when handling hazardous chemicals
Do not
  • Do not use cracked or chipped condensers for reflux experiments
  • For 1000mm extra-long condensers, ensure vertical installation to avoid bending stress
