Description

The double-jacketed beaker has a jacketed wall with one threaded nozzle at the top and one at the bottom for hose connection. Heating or cooling media circulate through the jacket to hold the liquid inside at a set temperature. The outer layer has a flat base and sits stably on a bench or magnetic stirrer; the inner layer is available with a flat or round bottom.

Photocatalytic-Reactor Ready

The glass walls are flat and transparent, allowing UV or visible light to pass through evenly. Place a UV light source above or beside the beaker and circulate a constant-temperature medium through the jacket to remove reaction heat — the beaker then works as a photocatalytic reactor for photocatalysis, water splitting, and photocatalytic organic synthesis.

  • Photocatalytic degradation: jacket cooling suppresses thermal effects and keeps catalyst activity stable.
  • Water splitting: a constant-temperature jacket stabilises the system for more consistent hydrogen evolution.
  • Photocatalytic organic synthesis: transparent walls plus magnetic stirring keep light and mass transfer even.
  • Low-temperature reactions: cooling media in the jacket maintain a low-temperature environment.

Design Features

  • Jacketed wall: the jacket surrounds the inner cup, so circulating media holds or controls the temperature of the liquid inside.
  • Threaded nozzles: one at the top and one at the bottom of the jacket for hose connection to a circulation unit.
  • Flat outer base: the outer layer is flat for stable placement; the inner layer can be flat or round bottom to suit different stirring methods.
  • Smooth transparent walls: uniform glass walls give good light transmission for observation and light-based experiments.

Material Advantages

Made of Borosilicate Glass 3.3 to ISO 3585. The very low coefficient of thermal expansion (3.3×10⁻⁶/K) resists cracking under rapid temperature change and withstands thermal shocks of up to 280°C, suiting both heating and cooling operations.

Quality Assurance

Every piece is checked for dimensions, stress, and appearance to meet demanding laboratory standards and give your experiments dependable support.

Note: when circulating heating or cooling media through the jacket, change the medium temperature gradually to avoid stress from a large difference across the jacket wall. Keep the liquid volume below 2/3 of capacity to prevent overflow during heating or reaction.

Tip: the main advantage of the double-jacketed beaker is that the liquid inside can be held or controlled at temperature. For photocatalytic work, pair the UV light source with jacket circulation — the light drives the reaction while the jacket removes excess heat, and the two together markedly improve reproducibility.

Operation & Care

Using the Double-Jacketed Beaker

Jacket Temperature Control

  • Before connecting hoses, check that both threaded nozzles on the jacket are intact and the hose bore is clean.
  • Use distilled water or a dedicated circulation fluid as the medium; avoid tap water that scales easily.
  • Heat or cool gradually when admitting media, controlling the rate of temperature change to avoid stress in the glass.
  • Drain the jacket after use to prevent scaling or corrosion from media left standing.

Photocatalytic Operation

  • Add catalyst and reaction liquid to the inner cup, keeping the volume below 2/3 of the inner capacity.
  • Circulate a constant-temperature medium through the jacket to hold the reaction at the set temperature.
  • Place the UV light source above or beside the beaker so the light covers the liquid surface evenly.
  • With a magnetic stirrer, add the stir bar before the liquid so light and mass transfer stay even.
  • Avoid directing the light at one spot for long periods, which can overheat locally and affect catalyst activity.

Cleaning & Care

  • Clean the inner cup and jacket nozzles promptly after use to prevent residue from drying on.
  • Soak stubborn residue in dilute acid or a dedicated cleaning solution before washing.
  • Rinse with distilled water and dry inverted on a draining rack.
  • Store away from hard objects and avoid stress on the threaded nozzles to prevent breakage.

Tip: the jacket is key to temperature control. For photocatalytic work, circulate the medium until the system is stable before switching on the light; when finished, switch off the light first and let the system fall close to room temperature before draining the jacket to extend the beaker's service life.

Care & Notes

Safety Notes

  • Change the temperature gradually when admitting media, to avoid cracking from a large difference across the jacket.
  • Inspect the beaker for cracks or scratches before use; a flawed beaker may break under temperature change.
  • Wear protective eyewear when using a UV light source, and avoid direct exposure of eyes and skin.
