Product Description

I. Overview

The PTFE stirring bar retriever is a specialized laboratory tool designed for safely removing magnetic stirrers from solution containers. Featuring a stainless steel core with a strong neodymium magnet fully encapsulated in a high-purity PTFE coating — enabling convenient, contamination-free retrieval of stirrers via magnetic attraction.

The PTFE coating provides exceptional chemical resistance — inert to strong acids (including hydrofluoric acid), strong alkalis, aqua regia, and all organic solvents — allowing long-term use in corrosive environments. The stainless core delivers mechanical strength and rigidity for deep-container operations without bending.

In addition to its primary function as a retriever, the tool can also be used for manual liquid stirring. Available in Straight (9mm diameter) and Ring (10mm diameter, ring-shaped magnet head) types with lengths from 150mm to 600mm to suit all laboratory containers.

II. Core Performance Parameters

  • Shaft Construction: Stainless core + PTFE coating
  • Magnet: NdFeB, high-strength
  • Shaft Diameter: Straight 9mm / Ring 10mm
  • Operating Temperature: -196℃ ~ 260℃
  • Chemical Resistance: Resistant to HF, aqua regia, concentrated H₂SO₄, HNO₃, strong alkalis, organic solvents
  • Surface: Non-stick, easy to clean

III. Material & Workmanship

Manufactured using imported high-purity PTFE resin with precision encapsulation technology — the stainless core and magnet are fully enclosed within the PTFE layer, ensuring no metal contact with media and eliminating metal ion contamination risks. The magnet is securely integrated with the shaft, preventing separation.

The ring type retriever features a ring-shaped magnet head providing larger magnetic contact area for stable retrieval of stirrers of all sizes, particularly large stirrers.

All products are manufactured and packaged in cleanroom environments to ensure particle-free, contaminant-free surfaces.

Selection Guide

I. By Container Depth

< 150mm150mmStraight
150mm ~ 200mm200mmStraight
200mm ~ 300mm250mm ~ 300mmStraight

400mm ~ 500mm450mm ~ 500mmRing (high-strength)
> 500mm500mm ~ 600mmRing (high-strength)

II. By Stirrer Size

  • Small stirrers (< 20mm): Straight type, 9mm head diameter
  • Medium stirrers (20-50mm): Straight type, standard
  • Large stirrers (> 50mm): Ring type, larger magnetic contact area

III. Straight vs Ring

  • Straight (Standard): Most versatile, suitable for the majority of laboratory containers
  • Ring (High-strength): Ring magnet head provides larger contact area — stable retrieval of all stirrer sizes, especially in deep vessels and for large stirrers
  • Soft (Flexible): Bendable shaft — suitable for narrow-neck vessels or operations requiring obstacle avoidance

💡 Selection Tip: Retriever length should be 50-100mm greater than the container depth to ensure the handle remains outside the vessel for comfortable operation.
For deep vessels (> 400mm), choose Ring type for more stable magnetic attachment and reduced risk of dropping stirrers during retrieval.
For narrow-neck containers, choose the Straight 9mm retriever — the thinner shaft passes through narrow openings more easily.
For corrosive media operations, always choose PTFE-coated retrievers to prevent metal contact with corrosive liquids.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

Standard operating guidelines for PTFE retrievers. Proper use ensures safe and efficient stirrer retrieval.

03

I. Pre-use Preparation

  • Inspect the PTFE coating for integrity — no damage or cracks
  • Check the magnet is secure — no looseness
  • Clean with ultrapure water or appropriate solvent to remove surface particles
  • Confirm retriever length is suitable for the container depth
04

II. Retrieving Operation

  1. First, stop the magnetic stirrer — ensure the stirrer has come to a complete stop
  2. Slowly lower the retriever head into the container, approaching the stirrer
  3. Use magnetic attraction to pick up the stirrer — gently lift the retriever
  4. Remove the stirrer from the container and transfer to the target location
05

III. Manual Stirring Operation

  • Immerse the retriever head in the liquid and manually agitate back and forth
  • The PTFE coating is non-stick — easy to clean after use
  • Suitable for temporary stirring of small liquid volumes
06

IV. Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean with ultrapure water or appropriate solvent after use — PTFE's non-stick surface makes cleaning easy
  • Stubborn residues may be soaked in dilute nitric acid
  • Air dry or wipe dry
  • Store in a clean, dry location — keep away from strong magnetic fields (may affect magnetism)
  • Periodically check magnet strength — replace if significantly weakened
06

V. Important Notes

  • Avoid impact with hard objects — may damage the PTFE coating
  • Avoid exceeding rated temperature during prolonged use (magnets may demagnetize at high temperatures)
  • Never use hard brushes or abrasives for cleaning
  • Store in a dry, dark place away from strong magnetic fields when not in use

💡 From a Seasoned Lab Technician: "Stop first, then retrieve" — Always stop the magnetic stirrer and wait for the stirrer to come to a complete stop before retrieving. Attempting to retrieve a spinning stirrer may cause it to fly off or damage the magnet head.
If the stirrer is firmly attached to the container bottom (especially with high-strength magnets), place the retriever head against the outer bottom wall to guide the stirrer using magnetic force before retrieval.
For large stirrers, use the Ring type retriever for more stable magnetic attachment and reduced risk of dropping during transfer.
If the retriever picks up multiple stirrers, gently tap the shaft to release excess stirrers.
