Solvent Distillation Head

250ml / 500ml / 1000ml · 24/40 · with PTFE Stopcock

The solvent distillation head is a specialized distillation apparatus designed for solvent purification, drying, and recovery. Manufactured from high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3 (ISO 3585), it integrates condenser connection, two-neck flask connection, syringe sampling port, and bulk liquid outlet for complete solvent handling in a closed system. The upper sampling port features a 4mm PTFE stopcock with a 14/20 outer joint for use with septa, permitting repeated syringe punctures without breaching the integrity of the solvent. The main joint is 24/40 standard taper. Available in 250ml, 500ml, and 1000ml capacities.

Product Description

The solvent distillation head is a specialized apparatus designed for laboratory solvent purification, drying, and recovery. It connects to a condenser (top) and a two-neck flask (bottom) to form a complete solvent distillation system. Manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3, it offers excellent thermal and chemical resistance for various organic solvent handling applications.

Key Features

  • Borosilicate Glass 3.3: ISO 3585 compliant, low expansion, thermal shock 280°C
  • 24/40 Standard Joint: Main joint compatible with standard distillation apparatus
  • 4mm PTFE Stopcock: Corrosion-resistant, excellent sealing for organic solvents
  • Syringe Sampling Port: 14/20 joint with PTFE stopcock permits syringe sampling without air exposure
  • Bulk Liquid Outlet: Lower side outlet for bulk liquid removal
  • Multiple Capacities: Available in 250ml, 500ml, and 1000ml
  • High Transparency: Easy observation of distillation and reflux
  • Chemical Resistant: Suitable for various organic solvents

Quality Assurance

Every solvent distillation head undergoes strict dimensional inspection, joint taper testing, and thermal resistance testing to ensure compliance with applicable standards.

Note: Ensure all joints are clean and dry before use. Check PTFE stopcock O-ring integrity and smooth rotation before operation. Using PTFE liners can completely eliminate vacuum grease contamination.

Applications

Typical Applications

Solvent Purification

Anhydrous and oxygen-free solvent distillation

Solvent Drying

Reflux drying with desiccants

Solvent Recovery

Post-experiment solvent recycling

Azeotropic Distillation

Separation of azeotropic mixtures

Schlenk Techniques

Inert atmosphere solvent handling

Pharmaceutical R&D

High-purity solvent preparation

Typical Apparatus Assembly

Upper (24/40) → Condenser

Lower (24/40) → Two-neck flask (receiving flask)

Upper side (14/20 + PTFE stopcock) → Syringe sampling/reagent addition

Lower side outlet → Bulk liquid removal

Tip: The solvent distillation head is the core component of solvent purification systems. The PTFE stopcock design ensures system integrity and prevents solvent-air contact. Using PTFE liners completely eliminates vacuum grease contamination.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

03

Preparation

  • Inspect distillation head for cracks, chips, or scratched joints
  • Clean all joint surfaces with a soft cloth or cotton swab
  • Check PTFE stopcock O-ring integrity and smooth rotation
  • If using PTFE liners, confirm proper installation
04

Installation & Connection

  • Connect the upper joint (24/40) to the condenser
  • Connect the lower joint (24/40) to the two-neck flask
  • Upper side port (14/20) for syringe sampling or reagent addition
  • Insert with gentle twisting motion, do not force
  • Secure components with clamps for stability
  • Confirm PTFE stopcock is in the closed position
05

Distillation/Reflux Operation

  • Check all joints for proper sealing
  • Begin heating, observe solvent reflux and distillation
  • For sampling: Use syringe through the 14/20 port with septum
  • For bulk liquid removal: Use the lower side outlet
  • Double stopcock models allow simultaneous control of sampling and drainage
  • Maintain system integrity throughout the process
06

Disassembly & Cleaning

  • Stop heating first, allow system to cool
  • Gently twist to detach components
  • PTFE stopcock can be removed for separate cleaning
  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue buildup
  • Wash joints with soft brush and detergent, avoid hard objects
  • PTFE stopcock can be cleaned with organic solvents; maintain O-ring
  • Air dry after washing, store with soft paper between joints

Safety Tips

  • PTFE stopcock maximum operating temperature: 280°C
  • Control temperature carefully when distilling flammable solvents
  • Always work in a fume hood when handling hazardous chemicals
  • For Schlenk operations, maintain inert gas protection
Do not
  • Do not use cracked or chipped distillation heads for experiments
