Product Description

The acid burette is one of the most commonly used titration instruments in analytical chemistry laboratories. Its core feature is the precision-ground glass stopcock, which allows fine control of liquid delivery for accurate endpoint detection.

Clear & Amber · Two Glass Options

RichTech acid burettes are available in clear glass and amber glass:

  • Clear Acid Burette: Classic transparent design for easy observation of liquid level, color changes, and air bubbles. Suitable for routine titration operations.
  • Amber Acid Burette: Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light (wavelength ≤ 470nm), preventing light-sensitive titrants from decomposing due to light exposure. Particularly suitable for potassium permanganate (KMnO₄), iodine (I₂), and silver nitrate (AgNO₃) titrations.

Design Features

  • Glass Stopcock: Precision-ground from borosilicate glass with accurate taper, smooth rotation, and excellent sealing performance.
  • Clear Graduations: White or blue scale markings with 0.1mL or 0.05mL divisions for accurate volume reading.
  • Uniform Wall Thickness: Consistent thickness for durability and thermal stability.
  • Delivery Tip: Finely crafted tip ensures uniform droplet formation and controlled flow rate.
  • Light Protection (Amber): Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light, protecting light-sensitive titrants and ensuring accurate titration results.

Material Excellence

Manufactured from high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3, acid burettes resist chemical attack from acidic and oxidizing solutions, ensuring long-term reliability and accurate results. Amber glass adds light-blocking capability without affecting chemical resistance.

Quality Assurance

Every acid burette undergoes rigorous scale verification, stopcock seal testing, and visual inspection, complying with GB/T 12805 standards.

Usage Tip: Check stopcock smoothness and sealing before use. Clean thoroughly after each use and apply a thin layer of stopcock grease for optimal performance. Avoid storing alkaline solutions in acid burettes. Store amber burettes away from direct light to maintain their light-blocking properties.

Applications

Key Application Areas

Acid-Base Titration

Determination of acid and alkali concentrations

Redox Titration

Permanganate method, iodometry, etc.

Precipitation Titration

Argentometry, barium salt determination

Complexometric Titration

EDTA titration

Industries Served

  • Academic Research Chemistry, environmental science, pharmaceutical labs
  • Pharmaceutical Industry API content determination, quality control
  • Chemical Industry Raw material and product purity analysis
  • Environmental Monitoring Water hardness, alkalinity testing
  • Food Testing Acidity and content analysis
Recommended Setup

Use with a burette stand and clamp. Control stopcock opening angle carefully and add titrant dropwise near the endpoint for precise results. For light-sensitive titrants, we recommend using amber acid burettes to prevent concentration changes due to light exposure.

Operation & Maintenance

Burette Procedure

03

Preparation

  • Inspect the burette for cracks, scratches, or other defects.
  • Check that the stopcock rotates smoothly and seals properly.
  • Rinse the burette 2–3 times with the titrant, using approximately 5–10mL each time.
  • Amber burettes require the same rinsing procedure as clear burettes.
04

Filling & Bubble Removal

  • Fill the burette with titrant to above the zero mark.
  • Open the stopcock and quickly release liquid to remove air bubbles from the tip.
  • Adjust the meniscus to the zero mark or slightly below, and record the initial reading.
05

Titration

  • Control the stopcock with your left hand (acid burette) or squeeze the rubber tube (alkaline burette).
  • Hold the Erlenmeyer flask with your right hand and swirl continuously for complete reaction.
  • Maintain a titration rate of 3–4 drops per second, adding dropwise near the endpoint.
  • Read the volume with your eye level with the lowest point of the meniscus.
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue from drying.
  • Clear burettes can be cleaned with standard laboratory detergents.
  • Amber burettes are cleaned in the same manner as clear burettes — the light-blocking property is unaffected.
  • Use dilute acid or specialized cleaning agents for stubborn residues.
  • Rinse with distilled water and air-dry on a burette stand.
  • Store carefully to avoid chipping and breakage.

Tip: Amber burettes are ideal for light-sensitive titrants such as potassium permanganate, iodine, and silver nitrate. They effectively prevent titrant decomposition due to light exposure, ensuring accurate analytical results. Amber burettes are operated in exactly the same way as clear burettes — only the glass color differs.

Care & Notes

Safety Notes

  • Wear safety goggles and gloves to prevent splashing.
  • Inspect burettes for cracks or scratches before use — damaged glass may break during use.
  • For alkaline burettes, check rubber tubing regularly for aging or hardening and replace as needed.
  • Store amber burettes away from direct light to maintain their protective properties.
Do not
  • Handle and store with care, avoiding impact with hard surfaces.
