Alkaline Burette

Rubber Tube/Glass Bead · Clear/Amber · 10mL – 50mL

Alkaline burettes are specifically designed for alkaline solution titration, featuring a rubber tube with a glass bead. This design prevents corrosion of the stopcock by alkaline solutions and provides smooth, controllable liquid delivery. Available in clear and amber glass — amber alkaline burettes effectively block UV light, making them ideal for light-sensitive alkaline titrants such as sodium thiosulfate and iodine solutions.

Product Description

The alkaline burette features a rubber tube with a glass bead instead of a glass stopcock, effectively preventing corrosion from alkaline solutions. Liquid flow is controlled by squeezing the rubber tube to create a gap between the glass bead and the tube wall.

Clear & Amber · Two Glass Options

RichTech alkaline burettes are available in clear glass and amber glass:

  • Clear Alkaline Burette: Classic transparent design for easy observation of liquid level, color changes, and air bubbles. Suitable for routine titration operations.
  • Amber Alkaline Burette: Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light (wavelength ≤ 470nm), preventing light-sensitive titrants from decomposing due to light exposure. Particularly suitable for iodometry and sodium thiosulfate titrations.

Design Features

  • Rubber Tube + Glass Bead: Elastic rubber tube with smooth glass bead for reliable sealing and easy operation.
  • Clear Graduations: White or blue scale markings with 0.1mL or 0.05mL divisions.
  • Alkali-Resistant Materials: Borosilicate glass body with specially formulated alkali-resistant rubber tubing.
  • Delivery Tip: Finely crafted tip for uniform droplet formation.
  • Light Protection (Amber): Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light, protecting light-sensitive titrants and ensuring accurate titration results.

Material Excellence

Borosilicate glass 3.3 body with alkali-resistant rubber tubing ensures long-term stability when handling strong alkaline solutions such as NaOH and KOH. Amber glass adds light-blocking capability without affecting chemical resistance.

Quality Assurance

Every alkaline burette undergoes scale verification, seal testing, and visual inspection in accordance with GB/T 12805 standards.

Usage Tip: Inspect rubber tube condition before use. Squeeze gently between thumb and forefinger to create a gap for liquid flow. Replace rubber tubing every 6–12 months to maintain optimal performance. Store amber burettes away from direct light to maintain their light-blocking properties.

Applications

Key Application Areas

Acid-Base Titration

Determination of alkali and acid concentrations

Redox Titration

Reactions carried out under alkaline conditions

Complexometric Titration

EDTA titration in alkaline media

Precipitation Titration

Certain precipitation reactions under alkaline conditions

Industries Served

  • Academic Research Chemistry, environmental science, materials science
  • Pharmaceutical Industry API content determination, quality control
  • Chemical Industry Alkali raw material and product purity analysis
  • Environmental Monitoring Water alkalinity and hardness testing
  • Food Testing Food acidity and total alkali analysis
Recommended Setup

Use with a burette stand and clamp. Control squeezing pressure carefully to maintain accurate flow rate near the endpoint. For light-sensitive titrants, we recommend using amber alkaline burettes to prevent concentration changes due to light exposure.

Operation & Maintenance

Burette Procedure

03

Preparation

  • Inspect the burette for cracks, scratches, or other defects.
  • Check that the rubber tube is not hardened or cracked, and that the glass bead moves freely.
  • Rinse the burette 2–3 times with the titrant, using approximately 5–10mL each time.
  • Amber burettes require the same rinsing procedure as clear burettes.
04

Filling & Bubble Removal

  • Fill the burette with titrant to above the zero mark.
  • Gently squeeze the rubber tube to create a gap around the glass bead, allowing liquid to flow quickly and remove air bubbles from the tip.
  • Adjust the meniscus to the zero mark or slightly below, and record the initial reading.
05

Titration

  • Control the rubber tube with your left hand — squeeze gently between thumb and forefinger to create a gap around the glass bead.
  • Hold the Erlenmeyer flask with your right hand and swirl continuously for complete reaction.
  • Maintain a titration rate of 3–4 drops per second, adding dropwise near the endpoint.
  • Read the volume with your eye level with the lowest point of the meniscus.
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue from drying.
  • Clear burettes can be cleaned with standard laboratory detergents.
  • Amber burettes are cleaned in the same manner as clear burettes — the light-blocking property is unaffected.
  • Check the rubber tube regularly for aging, hardening, or cracking and replace as needed.
  • Use dilute acid or specialized cleaning agents for stubborn residues.
  • Rinse with distilled water and air-dry on a burette stand.
  • Store carefully to avoid chipping and breakage.

Tip: Amber burettes are ideal for light-sensitive titrants. They effectively prevent titrant decomposition due to light exposure, ensuring accurate analytical results. Amber burettes are operated in exactly the same way as clear burettes — only the glass color differs. Rubber tubing should be replaced every 6–12 months for optimal performance.

Care & Notes

Safety Notes

  • Wear safety goggles and gloves to prevent splashing.
  • Inspect burettes for cracks or scratches before use — damaged glass may break during use.
  • For alkaline burettes, check rubber tubing regularly for aging or hardening and replace as needed.
  • Store amber burettes away from direct light to maintain their protective properties.
Do not
  • Handle and store with care, avoiding impact with hard surfaces.
