Neutral Burette

PTFE Stopcock · Clear/Amber · 10mL – 50mL

Neutral burettes feature a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) stopcock that combines excellent sealing performance with broad chemical compatibility. Resistant to acids, alkalis, and oxidizers, this versatile burette is ideal for general laboratory titration applications. Available in clear and amber glass — amber neutral burettes effectively block UV light, making them ideal for light-sensitive titrants such as silver nitrate, iodine, and potassium permanganate.

Product Description

The neutral burette features a PTFE stopcock that overcomes the limitations of glass stopcocks (vulnerable to alkali corrosion) and rubber tubing (susceptible to swelling in organic solvents). PTFE offers extremely low friction, exceptional chemical resistance, and a wide operating temperature range.

Clear & Amber · Two Glass Options

RichTech neutral burettes are available in clear glass and amber glass:

  • Clear Neutral Burette: Classic transparent design for easy observation of liquid level, color changes, and air bubbles. Suitable for routine titration operations.
  • Amber Neutral Burette: Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light (wavelength ≤ 470nm), preventing light-sensitive titrants from decomposing due to light exposure. Particularly suitable for silver nitrate, iodine, and potassium permanganate titrations, while maintaining the chemical compatibility advantages of PTFE stopcocks.

Design Features

  • PTFE Stopcock: Resists acids, alkalis, and organic solvents with smooth rotation and excellent sealing—no lubrication required.
  • Clear Graduations: White or blue scale markings with 0.1mL or 0.05mL divisions.
  • Uniform Wall Thickness: Consistent thickness for durability and thermal stability.
  • Delivery Tip: Finely crafted tip for uniform droplet formation and controlled flow.
  • Light Protection (Amber): Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light, protecting light-sensitive titrants and ensuring accurate titration results.

Material Excellence

Borosilicate glass 3.3 body with PTFE stopcock combines the transparency of glass with the chemical inertness of PTFE, covering virtually all titration applications. Amber glass adds light-blocking capability without affecting chemical resistance.

Quality Assurance

Every neutral burette undergoes rigorous scale verification, stopcock seal testing, and visual inspection in accordance with GB/T 12805 standards.

Usage Tip: PTFE stopcock requires no lubrication. Check smooth rotation before use. Clean thoroughly after each use to maintain accuracy. Store amber burettes away from direct light to maintain their light-blocking properties.

Applications

Key Application Areas

Acid-Base Titration

Suitable for both acidic and alkaline solutions

Redox Titration

Permanganate method, iodometry, etc.

Complexometric Titration

EDTA titration across wide pH range

Non-Aqueous Titration

Titration in organic solvents

Precipitation Titration

Various precipitation reactions

Industries Served

  • Academic Research Chemistry, environmental science, pharmacy, materials science
  • Pharmaceutical Industry API and formulation content determination
  • Chemical Industry Raw material and product purity analysis
  • Environmental Monitoring Water and soil analysis
  • Food Testing Food composition analysis
Recommended Setup

Use with a burette stand and clamp. PTFE stopcock requires no lubrication. Clean and air-dry after use. For light-sensitive titrants, we recommend using amber neutral burettes to prevent concentration changes due to light exposure.

Operation & Maintenance

Burette Procedure

03

Preparation

  • Inspect the burette for cracks, scratches, or other defects.
  • Check that the PTFE stopcock rotates smoothly and seals properly.
  • Rinse the burette 2–3 times with the titrant, using approximately 5–10mL each time.
  • Amber burettes require the same rinsing procedure as clear burettes.
04

Filling & Bubble Removal

  • Fill the burette with titrant to above the zero mark.
  • Open the PTFE stopcock and quickly release liquid to remove air bubbles from the tip.
  • Adjust the meniscus to the zero mark or slightly below, and record the initial reading.
05

Titration

  • Control the PTFE stopcock with your left hand — smooth rotation allows precise droplet control.
  • Hold the Erlenmeyer flask with your right hand and swirl continuously for complete reaction.
  • Maintain a titration rate of 3–4 drops per second, adding dropwise near the endpoint.
  • Read the volume with your eye level with the lowest point of the meniscus.
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue from drying.
  • Clear burettes can be cleaned with standard laboratory detergents.
  • Amber burettes are cleaned in the same manner as clear burettes — the light-blocking property is unaffected.
  • PTFE stopcock requires no lubrication — simply air-dry after cleaning.
  • Use dilute acid or specialized cleaning agents for stubborn residues.
  • Rinse with distilled water and air-dry on a burette stand.
  • Store carefully to avoid chipping and breakage.

Tip: Amber burettes are ideal for light-sensitive titrants. They effectively prevent titrant decomposition due to light exposure, ensuring accurate analytical results. PTFE stopcocks require no lubrication and are easy to operate — the ideal choice for general laboratory titration.

Safety Notes

  • Wear safety goggles and gloves to prevent splashing.
  • Inspect burettes for cracks or scratches before use — damaged glass may break during use.
  • Store amber burettes away from direct light to maintain their protective properties.
Do not
  • PTFE stopcock requires no lubrication — never apply grease or Vaseline.
  • Handle and store with care, avoiding impact with hard surfaces.
