Product Description

I. Overview

Glass microfiber filter paper is manufactured from high-purity borosilicate glass microfiber using a binder-free process, offering excellent chemical resistance and high-temperature stability (up to 500℃). Features high flow rates, efficient particle retention, and ultra-low metal leaching, making it ideal for air sampling, cell collection, water analysis, and environmental monitoring.

Compared to conventional cellulose filter paper, glass microfiber filter paper offers higher flow rates, lower metal background, and higher temperature resistance, especially suitable for applications requiring high-temperature ignition or trace element analysis.

🔬 Glass Microfiber vs Cellulose Filter Paper:
Glass Microfiber — Binder-free, 500℃ resistant, high flow rate, ultra-low metal leaching, ideal for air sampling, cell collection, gravimetric analysis after ignition.
Cellulose — Binder-containing, 120℃ max, lower flow rate, trace metal content, suitable for routine liquid filtration.

II. Core Performance Parameters

  • Material: 100% Borosilicate Glass Microfiber, fiber diameter 0.2-5µm
  • Binder: None (no volatiles at high temperature)
  • Max Operating Temperature: 500℃ (high-temperature ignition compatible)
  • Particle Retention Range: 0.7µm (GF/F) ~ 2.7µm (GF/A)
  • Flow Rate: High (GF/A typical), some grades medium
  • Metal Leaching: Ultra-low (Pb, Cu, Fe, Zn below detection limits)
  • pH Range: 0-14 (full range)
  • Hygroscopicity: Low (glass fiber does not absorb moisture, no drying pre-treatment required)

III. Material & Workmanship

Manufactured from imported high-purity borosilicate glass through high-temperature melting and air jet spinning to produce microfiber. Using wet-laid binder-free forming technology, ensuring fiber-to-fiber physical entanglement provides strength without any chemical binders.

All products are cut and packaged in cleanroom environments to prevent secondary contamination.

Selection Guide

I. By Particle Retention

Particle SizeRecommended GradeTypical Application
< 0.7µmGF/F (0.7µm)Ultrapure water, DNA/RNA research
0.7-1.2µmGF/B (1.0µm) / GF/C (1.2µm)Water analysis, TSS determination
1.2-1.6µmGF/A (1.6µm)Air sampling, routine filtration
> 1.6µmGF/D (2.7µm)Coarse particle pre-filtration

II. By Application

  • Air Sampling: GF/A or GF/F (depending on particle size)
  • Water Analysis/TSS: GF/C or GF/F
  • Cell Collection: GF/A or GF/C
  • Algae Collection: GF/C
  • High Particulate Concentration: GF/B (high loading capacity)
  • Ultrapure Water Filtration: GF/F
  • Pre-filtration: GF/D (high flow rate)

III. By Standard Methods

  • EPA Method 160.2 (TSS): GF/C or GF/F
  • ISO 7708 (Air Sampling): GF/A or GF/F
  • ASTM D5907 (TDS/TSS): GF/C
  • Bacterial Endotoxins Test: GF/F

💡 Selection Tip: GF/A is the most commonly used grade for most air sampling and water filtration applications. For high particulate concentration samples, choose GF/B (high loading capacity). For finest particle retention, choose GF/F. For ultrapure water filtration or DNA/RNA research, GF/F is the industry standard.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

Below are standard operating guidelines for glass microfiber filter paper. Proper use ensures optimal filtration performance and experimental results.

03

I. Pre-use Preparation

  • Inspect packaging integrity and paper surface for damage or contamination
  • Glass microfiber paper is brittle — handle with care, avoid folding or creasing
  • Select appropriate diameter based on filter holder size
  • For gravimetric analysis, dry at 105℃ for 1 hour, cool to room temperature, and weigh
  • For trace element analysis, pre-wash with dilute nitric acid (recommended for GF/F)
04

II. Filtration Operation

  1. Place the filter paper flat in the filter holder (glass or plastic filtration apparatus recommended)
  2. Apply vacuum or pressure for filtration
  3. Slowly pour the sample along the wall, avoiding direct impact on the filter paper surface
  4. Maintain stable vacuum or pressure during filtration
  5. After filtration, rinse the filter paper surface with a small amount of solvent for complete transfer
05

III. Ignition Operation (Gravimetric Analysis)

  1. Place the filter paper in a crucible and transfer to a muffle furnace
  2. Slowly ramp to 500℃ (heating rate ≤ 100℃/h)
  3. Hold at 500℃ for 30-60 minutes
  4. Remove the crucible, cool in a desiccator to room temperature, and weigh
06

IV. Important Notes

  • Glass microfiber filter paper is single-use only
  • Store in a dry, cool place to prevent moisture absorption
  • Do not use for hydrofluoric acid (HF) filtration — glass fiber is corroded by HF
  • Do not use for strong alkaline solutions (pH > 12) — prolonged contact may affect structural integrity
  • Dispose according to laboratory waste regulations after use

💡 From a Seasoned Lab Technician: "Handle with care, glass fiber is fragile" — Glass microfiber paper is brittle; do not fold or excessively bend, keep it flat.
"Don't over-vacuum" — Vacuum should not be too high (recommended < 0.5 bar), excessive vacuum may damage the paper.
"Dry before ignition" — For high-temperature ignition, first dry at 105℃ to remove moisture, then slowly heat to 500℃.
