Product Description

I. Overview

Qualitative filter paper is one of the most essential filtration consumables in the laboratory. Manufactured from 100% high-quality cotton linter cellulose through fine papermaking processes, it features uniform pore distribution, stable filtration efficiency, and excellent wet strength. Ideal for routine analytical separations and qualitative analysis.

Available in fast, medium, and slow flow rates to accommodate various sample characteristics and filtration requirements. The paper surface is clean, free of impurities, and contains no optical brighteners, ensuring reliable analytical results. Suitable for pH range 0-12 with a maximum operating temperature of 120℃.

II. Core Performance Parameters

  • Material: 100% Cotton Linter Cellulose, α-cellulose ≥ 92%
  • Particle Retention Range: 2.5µm (Grade 5) ~ 11µm (Grade 1)
  • Filtration Speed (Herzberg Method): 40 sec (Grade 1) ~ 250 sec (Grade 5)
  • pH Range: 0-12
  • Max Operating Temperature: 120℃
  • Ash Content: ≤ 0.1%
  • Optical Brighteners: None

III. Material & Workmanship

Manufactured from imported high-quality cotton linter through alkalization, bleaching, and refining processes to produce high-purity cellulose pulp. Precision-formed using cylinder paper machines to ensure uniform fiber distribution and consistent thickness. All products undergo rigorous quality testing, including pore size distribution, filtration speed, and wet strength tests to guarantee batch-to-batch consistency.

All products are cut and packaged in cleanroom environments to prevent secondary contamination.

Selection Guide

I. By Filtration Speed

Filtration NeedRecommended GradeFlow RateParticle Retention
Coarse particle rapid filtration, Pre-filtrationGrade 597Fast6-10µm
General routine filtration (Recommended)Grade 1Medium11µm
Medium particle filtrationGrade 595Medium4-7µm
Fine particle filtrationGrade 2Medium-Slow8µm
Fine particle precision filtrationGrade 5Slow2.5µm

II. By Sample Characteristics

  • Aqueous solutions: All grades suitable, Grade 1 recommended
  • Organic solvents: Grade 1 or Grade 595 recommended (better solvent resistance)
  • Fine particle samples: Grade 2 or Grade 5 recommended
  • Rapid pre-filtration: Grade 597 recommended
  • Precipitate separation: Lead sulfate, calcium oxalate — Grade 1 recommended

III. By Standard Methods

  • EPA Standard Methods: Grade 1 or Grade 595 recommended
  • ASTM Standards: Grade 1 or Grade 2 recommended
  • General Lab Practices: Grade 1 recommended

💡 Selection Tip: Grade 1 is the most commonly used grade for general laboratory filtration. Choose Grade 2 or Grade 5 for samples with significant fine particles to obtain clearer filtrate. For rapid processing of coarse particle samples, Grade 597 is the ideal choice.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

Below are standard operating guidelines for qualitative filter paper. Proper use ensures optimal filtration performance and reliable experimental results.

03

I. Pre-use Preparation

  • Inspect packaging integrity and paper surface for damage or contamination
  • Select appropriate diameter (filter paper diameter should be 20-30mm larger than funnel diameter)
  • Fold using the umbrella folding method: Fold round paper in half twice, open to umbrella shape, place in funnel
  • Pre-wet the paper with a small amount of solvent to ensure tight adhesion to funnel wall and remove air bubbles
04

II. Filtration Operation

  1. Place folded filter paper into the funnel, ensuring tight fit against the funnel wall
  2. Position the funnel over a receiving container with the stem tip touching the container wall
  3. Slowly pour the sample along a glass rod
  4. Liquid level must not exceed approximately 5mm above the filter paper edge to prevent sample bypass
  5. Use a filter paper spoon or other tools to assist during filtration, avoiding paper damage
  6. After filtration, collect the filtrate for subsequent analysis
05

III. Important Notes

  • Qualitative filter paper is single-use only; do not reuse
  • Avoid contact with strong oxidizers or open flames
  • Store in a dry, cool, dark place to prevent moisture absorption
  • Dispose according to laboratory waste regulations after use
  • Do not use for high-temperature ashing (quantitative filter paper is required for gravimetric analysis)

💡 From a Seasoned Lab Technician: "Pre-wet for a tighter seal" — Pre-wetting the filter paper with solvent helps it adhere more tightly to the funnel wall, preventing sample bypass and improving filtration efficiency.
"Keep the liquid below the rim" — Ensure the liquid level stays approximately 5mm below the paper edge to prevent leakage between paper and funnel wall. The paper should be fully expanded without wrinkles.
"Use a glass rod for smooth pouring" — Using a glass rod for sample introduction prevents splashing and paper damage.
