Product Description

I. Overview

The plastic petri dish is an essential consumable for microbial culture, cell culture, and plant tissue culture in the laboratory. Manufactured from high-clarity polystyrene (PS) through precision injection molding, featuring a smooth, transparent surface for easy microscopic observation of colonies and cells.

Available in 35mm, 60mm, 70mm, 90mm, 100mm, and 150mm sizes. Sterilized by gamma irradiation to ensure sterility and pyrogen-free quality. The lid features venting ribs to maintain sterility while allowing gas exchange. The raised outer edge of the lid ensures stable stacking.

Available in untreated, TC-treated, and super-hydrophilic treated surfaces. Untreated surfaces are suitable for suspension cell culture; TC-treated surfaces have enhanced hydrophilicity for adhesion and spreading of common cell lines; super-hydrophilic treated surfaces are suitable for difficult-to-culture cells. Suitable for microbial culture, cell culture, plant tissue culture, and more.

🔬 Product Advantages:
High-Clarity PS — Easy microscopic observation of colonies and cells
Multiple Surfaces — Untreated / TC-treated / Super-hydrophilic for different culture needs
Venting Rib Design — Maintains sterility while allowing gas exchange
Stackable Design — Raised outer edge for stable stacking
DNase/RNase-free — Pyrogen-free, non-cytotoxic

II. Core Performance Parameters

  • Material: High-clarity polystyrene (PS)
  • Process: Precision injection molding
  • Size Range: 35mm / 60mm / 70mm / 90mm / 100mm / 150mm
  • Sterilization: Gamma irradiated
  • Surface Treatment: Untreated / TC-treated / Super-hydrophilic
  • Venting: Venting ribs on lid for gas exchange
  • Stacking: Raised outer edge for stable stacking
  • Quality: DNase/RNase-free, pyrogen-free, non-cytotoxic

III. Material & Workmanship

Manufactured from medical-grade polystyrene (PS) resin in a cleanroom environment, ensuring high clarity and dimensional accuracy across all sizes. The lid and base fit securely to prevent contamination.

The raised outer edge of the lid ensures stable stacking. Venting ribs on the lid maintain sterility while allowing gas exchange. The wave-like easy-grip rim design facilitates safe handling. Bottom positioning marks help identify cell culture areas.

Every batch undergoes rigorous dimensional and visual inspection to ensure consistent quality.

Selection Guide

I. By Surface Treatment

Culture RequirementRecommended SurfaceCell/Application Type
Suspension cells, microbial cultureUntreatedBacteria, yeast, suspension cell lines
Routine adherent cell cultureTC-TreatedHeLa, 293, MCF-7 and common cell lines
Difficult cells, primary cellsSuper-hydrophilicPrimary cells, transfected lines, serum-free culture

II. By Size

  • 35mm: Small-scale culture, precious cell lines, standards
  • 60mm / 70mm: Routine microbial culture, small-scale cell culture
  • 90mm: Routine bacterial culture, cell culture (most common)
  • 100mm: Larger-scale cell culture
  • 150mm: Large-scale cell culture, bulk sample culture

💡 Selection Tip: 90mm TC-treated petri dish is the most commonly used size.
For suspension cells or microbial culture, choose untreated surface.
For routine adherent cell culture, choose TC-treated surface.
For difficult cells or primary cells, choose super-hydrophilic surface.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

Below are standard operating guidelines for plastic petri dishes. Proper use ensures experimental safety and culture results.

03

I. Pre-use Preparation

  • Inspect for cracks, deformation, and packaging integrity
  • Check the sterilization expiry date (sterile version)
  • Perform all operations in a laminar flow hood or biosafety cabinet
  • Prepare culture media, inoculation tools, and other materials
04

II. Culture Operation

  1. Open the petri dish packaging in the laminar flow hood
  2. Pour prepared culture medium into the dish and spread evenly
  3. After the medium solidifies, proceed with inoculation
  4. Cover with the lid and label the outer edge with sample information
  5. Place the petri dish in the incubator at the required temperature and gas conditions
  6. Monitor colony or cell growth regularly during the incubation period
05

III. Disposal

  • Dispose of used petri dishes in biohazard waste containers
  • Petri dishes used for microbial culture should be autoclaved before disposal
  • Petri dishes used for cell culture should be disposed according to biosafety regulations

💡 From a Seasoned Lab Technician: "Sterile technique is the top priority" — All operations must be performed in a laminar flow hood or biosafety cabinet.
"Medium thickness should be optimal" — Medium depth should generally be 3-5mm — too thick impedes gas exchange.
"Minimize lid opening" — Frequent lid opening increases contamination risk — observe through the lid whenever possible.
"Label clearly" — Mark the outer edge of the lid with sample name, date, culture conditions, etc.
