Product Description

I. Overview

The plastic shaker flask (conical culture flask) is an essential consumable for suspension cell culture, bacterial culture, and media preparation in the laboratory. Manufactured from high-clarity polycarbonate (PC) or PETG through precision blow molding, featuring seamless one-piece construction, high transparency, and smooth uniform surfaces.

Available in 125ml, 250ml, 500ml, 1000ml, 2000ml, 3000ml, and 5000ml sizes. Available in plain and baffled bottom designs — plain bottoms are suitable for routine culture and storage, while baffled bottoms increase fluid shear, reduce cell clumping, and enhance oxygen transfer. Available with vented caps (with 0.22μm hydrophobic filter membrane) and sealed caps. Sterilized by electron beam sterilization, sterile individually wrapped, DNase/RNase-free, pyrogen-free, and non-cytotoxic.

Neck dimensions comply with SBS standards, compatible with most bioreactors and shaker clamps. Suitable for suspension cell culture, bacterial/yeast culture, media preparation and storage.

🔬 Product Advantages:
High-Clarity PC/PETG — Easy observation of cell growth
Multiple Sizes — 125ml~5000ml for different culture scales
Plain/Baffled Bottom — Baffled bottom enhances oxygen transfer, reduces cell clumping
Vented/Sealed Caps — Vented caps with 0.22μm filter membrane
SBS Compliant — Compatible with bioreactors and shaker clamps
Sterile Individually Wrapped — DNase/RNase-free, pyrogen-free, non-cytotoxic

II. Core Performance Parameters

  • Material: PC (Polycarbonate) / PETG
  • Process: Precision blow molding, seamless one-piece
  • Sizes: 125ml / 250ml / 500ml / 1000ml / 2000ml / 3000ml / 5000ml
  • Bottom Type: Plain / Baffled
  • Cap Type: Vented (with 0.22μm hydrophobic filter) / Sealed
  • Cap Material: HDPE / PP
  • Filter Material: PTFE (vented cap)
  • Sterilization: Electron beam sterilized
  • Packaging: Individually wrapped
  • Quality: DNase/RNase-free, pyrogen-free, non-cytotoxic
  • Temperature Range: -80℃ ~ 121℃ (PC material)

III. Material & Workmanship

Manufactured from medical-grade PC or PETG resin through precision blow molding. The flask body is seamless with surface finish close to mirror quality and transparency approaching glass, reducing the risk of cell attachment.

Caps are made of high-strength HDPE or PP. Vented caps feature 0.22μm hydrophobic PTFE filter membranes that are gas-permeable but liquid-impermeable, effectively preventing microbial contamination while allowing gas exchange. Neck dimensions comply with SBS standards for easy connection to bioreactors.

Every batch undergoes rigorous dimensional and visual inspection to ensure consistent quality.

Selection Guide

I. By Bottom Type

Culture RequirementRecommended BottomUse Case
Routine suspension culture, storagePlainSuspension cells, bacterial culture, media preparation and storage
High-density suspension cultureBaffledCell lines requiring high oxygen transfer, reduce cell clumping
Microbial fermentationBaffledBacterial, yeast high-density fermentation

II. By Cap Type

Culture RequirementRecommended CapUse Case
Suspension cell culture (gas exchange needed)VentedMost suspension cells, bacterial culture
Controlled gas environmentSealedMedia storage, special gas conditions
Long-term storageSealedMedia storage after preparation

III. By Capacity

  • 125ml / 250ml: Small-scale culture, condition optimization, precious cell lines
  • 500ml / 1000ml: Routine culture, experimental cell preparation (most common)
  • 2000ml / 3000ml: Large-scale culture, pilot scale
  • 5000ml: Large-scale production, industrial culture

💡 Selection Tip: 500ml or 1000ml plain bottom vented cap flask is the most commonly used size.
For high-density suspension culture, choose baffled bottom.
For routine culture and storage, choose plain bottom.
For large-scale culture (>2L), choose handle style.
PC material can withstand -80℃ ~ 121℃ and is autoclavable; PETG offers higher clarity but is not heat-resistant.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

Below are standard operating guidelines for plastic shaker flasks. Proper use ensures culture results and experimental reliability.

03

I. Pre-use Preparation

  • Inspect packaging integrity and flask condition
  • Check the sterilization expiry date
  • Perform all operations in a laminar flow hood or biosafety cabinet
  • Prepare culture media, cell suspension, and other materials
04

II. Culture Operation

  1. Open the sterile packaging in the laminar flow hood
  2. Add culture media and cell suspension to the flask
  3. Media volume should be approximately 30-40% of total flask volume
  4. Secure the cap (vented caps need not be fully tightened)
  5. Secure the flask to the shaker clamp
  6. Set shaker speed — starting speed recommended at 75-125 RPM, adjust as needed
  7. Sample and observe regularly as required
05

III. Cleaning & Disposal

  • Single-use flasks are recommended for one-time use to avoid contamination
  • For reuse (PC material), clean promptly after use and autoclave
  • Dispose of used flasks in biohazard waste containers
  • Biohazardous samples should be disposed according to biosafety regulations

💡 From a Seasoned Lab Technician: "Baffled for oxygenation, plain for storage" — Use baffled bottom for high-density culture, plain bottom for routine storage.
"Vented for culture, sealed for storage" — Use vented caps for culture, switch to sealed caps for storage.
"Avoid overfilling" — Fill volume should not exceed 40% of total volume for optimal oxygen transfer.
"Increase speed gradually" — Gradually increase shaker speed after cell inoculation to avoid shear damage.
