Automatic Burette

Air-Pressure Control · Clear/Amber · 5mL – 50mL

The automatic burette utilizes air-pressure control technology, where the operator regulates inlet and outlet valves to create a pressure difference that drives titrant flow. The all-glass fluid path is manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3, eliminating contact between titrant and metal or rubber components. Available in clear and amber glass — amber automatic burettes effectively block UV light, making them ideal for light-sensitive titrants. Easy and effortless operation makes it ideal for batch sample analysis and standardized testing.

Product Description

The automatic burette builds upon traditional burette design with the addition of air-pressure control ports. The operator regulates the inlet and outlet valves to control the internal air pressure, creating a pressure differential that drives the titrant to flow automatically and steadily. No manual stopcock rotation or rubber tube squeezing is required—titration becomes easier and more controllable.

Clear & Amber · Two Glass Options

RichTech automatic burettes are available in clear glass and amber glass:

  • Clear Automatic Burette: Classic transparent design for easy observation of liquid level, color changes, and air bubbles. Suitable for routine titration operations.
  • Amber Automatic Burette: Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light (wavelength ≤ 470nm), preventing light-sensitive titrants from decomposing due to light exposure. Particularly suitable for silver nitrate, iodine, and potassium permanganate titrations, while maintaining the convenience of air-pressure control.

Operating Principle

  • Air Inlet Control: Opening the inlet valve allows air to enter the upper chamber, increasing pressure and pushing titrant out through the delivery tip.
  • Air Outlet Control: Opening the outlet valve releases air, reducing pressure to stop or slow the titrant flow.
  • Pressure Regulation: Balancing inlet and outlet air allows precise control of titration speed for consistent, uniform flow.

Design Features

  • Air-Pressure Control: Simple operation via inlet and outlet valves for precise, effortless titration control.
  • All-Glass Fluid Path: Tube body, piston, and delivery tip are all manufactured from borosilicate glass—no metal or rubber contact with titrant.
  • Clear Graduations: White or blue scale markings with 0.1mL divisions for accurate volume reading.
  • Stable & Controllable: Air-pressure control delivers consistent titration speed while minimizing operator error.
  • Light Protection (Amber): Amber glass body effectively blocks UV light, protecting light-sensitive titrants and ensuring accurate titration results.

Material Excellence

Manufactured from borosilicate glass 3.3 with an all-glass structure that eliminates contact between titrant and metal or rubber components, particularly suitable for high-purity analytical applications. Amber glass adds light-blocking capability without affecting chemical resistance.

Usage Tip: Check inlet/outlet valve operation and air-tightness before use. Coordinate inlet and outlet valve adjustments to control titration speed—slow down near the endpoint for accurate detection. Store amber burettes away from direct light to maintain their light-blocking properties.

Industries Served

  • Pharmaceutical Industry API content determination, quality control
  • Chemical Industry Product purity analysis
  • Environmental Monitoring Water quality analysis
  • Food Testing Food composition analysis
  • Third-Party Testing High-throughput sample analysis
  • Research Institutions Standard calibration

Comparison with Other Burettes

  • vs Acid Burette No stopcock rotation required—easier and more effortless
  • vs Alkaline Burette No rubber tube aging issues—all-glass fluid path
  • vs Neutral Burette More flexible pressure control with more stable titration speed
Best Suited For

Extended titration sessions, high-throughput batch analysis, and high-purity analytical applications. Air-pressure control reduces operator fatigue and manual error. For light-sensitive titrants, we recommend using amber automatic burettes to prevent concentration changes due to light exposure.

Automatic Burette Procedure

03

Preparation

  • Inspect the burette for cracks, scratches, or other defects.
  • Check that the inlet and outlet valves operate smoothly and the air system is properly sealed.
  • Rinse the burette 2–3 times with the titrant, using approximately 5–10mL each time.
  • Amber burettes require the same rinsing procedure as clear burettes.
  • Ensure the gas supply is connected correctly — clean, dry nitrogen or air is recommended.
04

Filling & Bubble Removal

  • Fill the burette with titrant to above the zero mark.
  • Open the outlet valve to equalize pressure with the atmosphere, then slowly open the inlet valve to apply pressure and remove air bubbles from the tip.
  • Adjust the meniscus to the zero mark or slightly below, close both valves, and record the initial reading.
05

Titration

  • Slowly open the inlet valve — titrant will begin to flow under air pressure.
  • Control the titration speed by adjusting the inlet valve opening — wider opening increases flow rate.
  • Near the endpoint, gradually close the inlet valve to achieve dropwise or half-drop control.
  • To pause titration, open the outlet valve to release internal pressure.
  • Read the volume with your eye level with the lowest point of the meniscus.
06

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean immediately after use to prevent residue from drying.
  • Clear burettes can be cleaned with standard laboratory detergents.
  • Amber burettes are cleaned in the same manner as clear burettes — the light-blocking property is unaffected.
  • Inlet and outlet valves require no special lubrication — simply air-dry after cleaning.
  • Use dilute acid or specialized cleaning agents for stubborn residues.
  • Rinse with distilled water and air-dry on a burette stand.
  • Store carefully to avoid chipping and breakage.

Tip: Amber automatic burettes are ideal for light-sensitive titrants, effectively preventing decomposition due to light exposure. Air-pressure control makes operation effortless and is particularly suitable for continuous batch titration analysis, significantly improving work efficiency.

Care & Notes

Safety Notes

  • Wear safety goggles and gloves to prevent splashing.
  • Inspect burettes for cracks or scratches before use — damaged glass may break under pressure.
  • Store amber burettes away from direct light to maintain their protective properties.
Do not
  • Open the inlet valve slowly when pressurizing to avoid sudden pressure surges that may cause splashing.
  • Handle and store with care, avoiding impact with hard surfaces.
