Product Description

I. Overview

The plastic cryovial is an essential consumable for long-term cryopreservation of biological samples. Manufactured from high-purity polypropylene (PP) through precision injection molding, featuring high clarity, smooth surface, and compatibility with various cryo racks and boxes.

Available with external thread and internal thread caps. External thread caps have the sealing ring on the outside, reducing contamination risk. Internal thread caps have the sealing ring on the inside, providing better sealing for liquid nitrogen storage. The self-standing bottom design allows tubes to stand upright for easy handling.

Features clear graduations and a white marking area. Sterilized by gamma irradiation, certified DNase/RNase-free and pyrogen-free. Suitable for long-term preservation of cells, tissues, microorganisms at -80℃ and liquid nitrogen vapor phase.

🔬 External vs Internal Thread:
External Thread — Threads on the outside of the tube, sealing ring on the outside. Reduces contamination risk. Ideal for routine -80℃ cryopreservation.
Internal Thread — Threads on the inside of the tube, sealing ring on the inside. Better sealing performance. Ideal for long-term liquid nitrogen vapor phase storage, minimizing liquid nitrogen ingress.

II. Core Performance Parameters

  • Tube Material: High-purity polypropylene (PP), high clarity
  • Cap Material: High-density polyethylene (HDPE)
  • Sealing: External thread / Internal thread
  • Bottom: Self-standing
  • Capacities: 0.5ml, 1.5ml, 2.0ml, 5.0ml
  • Temperature Range: -80℃ ~ 121℃
  • Sterilization: Gamma irradiated
  • Quality: DNase/RNase-free, pyrogen-free
  • Graduations: Molded graduations with white marking area

III. Material & Workmanship

Manufactured from medical-grade polypropylene (PP) resin through precision injection molding. Tubes feature uniform wall thickness, high clarity, and smooth surfaces. The self-standing bottom design allows tubes to stand upright for convenient handling.

All products are manufactured and packaged in cleanroom environments and sterilized by gamma irradiation.

Selection Guide

I. By Cap Type

Storage MethodRecommended CapReason
-80℃ Ultra-low freezer storageExternal ThreadSealing ring on outside, reduces contamination
Liquid nitrogen vapor phase storageInternal ThreadBetter sealing, minimizes liquid nitrogen ingress
Routine cryopreservationExternal / InternalChoose based on preference

II. By Capacity

  • 0.5ml: Micro samples, precious cell lines, RNA storage
  • 1.5ml: Routine cell cryopreservation, tissue samples, microbial storage (most common)
  • 2.0ml: Large volume cell suspensions, tissue homogenates, serum storage
  • 5.0ml: Bulk samples, tissue block storage

💡 Selection Tip: 1.5ml external thread is the most commonly used cryovial size.
For liquid nitrogen vapor phase storage, choose internal thread.
To minimize contamination risk, choose external thread.
Use colored caps to visually distinguish different sample types.

Operation & Maintenance

User Guide

Below are standard operating guidelines for plastic cryovials. Proper use ensures sample safety and product performance.

03

I. Pre-use Preparation

  • Inspect for cracks, deformation, and cap seal integrity
  • Confirm material compatibility with the sample
  • Ensure labeling is clear and legible
  • For sterile applications, confirm package integrity
04

II. Cryopreservation Operation

  1. Add the sample (e.g., cell suspension) to the cryovial
  2. Do not exceed the marked capacity — leave space for expansion
  3. Tighten the cap clockwise to ensure a secure seal
  4. Label the white marking area with sample information (name, date, ID, etc.)
  5. Place the cryovial in a cryo box and transfer to -80℃ freezer or liquid nitrogen tank
05

III. Thawing & Processing

  • Remove the cryovial from storage and immediately place in a 37℃ water bath
  • Gently shake the tube during thawing to accelerate melting
  • After thawing, wipe the tube with 70% alcohol for decontamination
  • Use thawed samples promptly — avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles

💡 From a Seasoned Lab Technician: "External for contamination prevention, internal for leak prevention" — Use external thread for -80℃ storage, internal thread for liquid nitrogen storage.
"Seal firmly, but not too tight" — Seal snugly — over-tightening may crack the cap or make it difficult to open.
"Colored caps for quick identification" — Use different cap colors to distinguish sample types at a glance.
"Freeze slowly, thaw quickly" — Use gradient cooling or a controlled-rate freezer to prevent ice crystal damage.
